tri city compassion club thoughts

I went to my first compassion club tonight. The people were great. They were friendly. Public knowledge is being worked on. I hope I can help the club grow by putting my thoughts down.

N.J. $10M marijuana bust brings focus on drug laws that mirror Prohibition OR What NOT to do with your overages

http://blog.nj.com/njv_tom_moran/2010/03/police_thought_marijuana_odor.html

By Tom Moran/ The Star-Ledger
March 12, 2010, 5:31AM

The house at the center of this week’s Big Drug Bust sits next door to Elva Wilson’s home in a rural stretch of Middlesex County. And the police officer who investigated the first house after smelling marijuana thought it was "just kids partying."

Police say an ethnic Vietnamese gang secretly grew more than 1,000 marijuana plants in the basement under high-intensity lamps. Three were arrested, and police were still searching for three more.

Keyboard Activism

Here is a list to 10 things you can do from your keyboard to make a difference. The one cost is your time--which is much appreciated.

Thanks to federal med mj defendant Bryan Epis, who created this list. I'm sure he'd appreciate if we showed our thanks by signing #6 in particular, the petition in his support.

A rumor or not? Is a patient legal pending a denial?

If a patient had an application sighned of by a doctor, and has had a check cashed for over 1 month, are they legal to provide a service for without a card?

ACLU Blasts Passage of Grand Rapids Medical Marijuana Ordinance

2 important announcements

The venue for the 313 event had to be moved. The new (and final) venue is:

5E Gallery
2125 Michigan Ave.
Detroit, Michigan 48216

Many of our patients simply cannot afford the $20 ticket price for this event. So we've adopted the National Public Radio model and are instead asking our members to pay what they feel they can.

The 10 Steps video in particular is of great importance to our community. It is more important that our members get this information than that we get $20 out of their hides.

Are You Cannabis Deficient?

by The Medicine Hunter
http://health.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/03/10/are-you-cannabis-deficient/

If the idea of having a marijuana deficiency sounds laughable to you, a growing body of science points at exactly such a possibility. Scientists have known that the active psychoactive compound in marijuana is THC, which is short for tetrahydrocannabinol.
In August 1990, researchers reported in the journal Nature the discovery of receptors in the brain that specifically accommodate the cannabinoids in pot. Cannabinoids bind to particular neurological sites in the brain, as though the brain was specifically designed to utilize this plant. Did nature toss cannabinoid receptors into the brain by random chance? Are cannabinoid receptors part of an intelligent design for deriving maximum benefit from cannabis? Is cannabis a divine elixir of sacred communion for which we are ideally suited? Actually, a more sober answer seems likely. When there are receptors in the brain for a particular type of compound, that compound is made in the brain. This is true of many important agents that work to transmit brain messages of all types. So a hunt began to find such a compound.

Local Battle Creek Wally world worker fired....lets form a protest for this Sunday....

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – New surveys are finding more and more people in favor of legalizing marijuana, with even some police officers saying it's just a matter of time.

In 1969 a Gallup poll found only twelve percent of people thought pot should be legal. A similar poll conducted in 2009 found that number jump to 44 percent.

coming events

This past week has been a vivid reminder of why I chose to live in Michigan. A quick trip to Menominee to help them launch their Compassion Club, some wonderful conversations w/a few City Commissioners and Township Trustees looking for guidance on how to THWART efforts to impose restrictive local ordinances and then this glorious weather. I love this state, I love being here.

Tapped my maples a week ago. First crop of the year on my farm. Planted spinach Sunday under a plastic drape. Will have fresh greens in a month. March 17, St. Paddy's day will plant some peas and early 'taters. Love playing in the dirt!
