Many of the legal issues surrounding the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act are addressed by the act itself. The site discusses aspects of the law from a lawyer's perspective.

Keep in mind however, while the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act protects qualified patients and caregivers from prosecution under state law, it provides no such protection from federal prosecution as marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

State protection for qualified patients and caregivers comes in the form of a medical marijuana identification card that's issued by the Bureau of Health Professions within the Michigan Department of Community Health. Before you can legally purchase or cultivate cannabis you must have this card.
