Thanks Greg! I've Seen The New Forum and It is Good!

After only a week of Greg assuming control of the MMMA, Major improvements and accomplishments are getting close to implementation. Greg has been working tirelessly to provide you folks with a new forum(Our New Home). Our technical contact Eric, on this project called today to inform me that the installation of a test environment was complete. I actually went over to kick the tires and it is sweet. This software will provide us with unbelievable flexibility and functionality.
With all the things that went on in the last week, Greg was able to work through the distractions and keep the momentum going in a positive direction. Graphics are being updated this week and some custom modifications are being made. We hope to be able to start beta testing next week.
I think it is the true measure of leadership, when a person puts aside adverse circumstances and works to improve all of our lives. Thanks Greg and Eric for this major accomplishment!

My thought processes on why
My thought processes on why we should at support decriminalization and/or legalization is we have no bargaining power right now. We have to go to Lansing and verbally spar with the politicians just to keep some semblance of our law in tact. Townships and cities are putting in zoning restrictions. We need to let them know if they don't honor our law and the will of the people, we will take away their power to govern us on this issue. We can't just keep waiting as they whittle away at our civil rights.
We need to make it clear to the politicians that we are the people. We are not their pawns or their servants. I'm producing a document for Calhoun County. We do not currently have financial support for a state wide referendum for 2010, but we're going to be working on 2012.
If we work on the local level this cycle, then we can build momentum for a full fledged run at the gold in 2012. We need to have committees working to write template referendums so we can put them on as many local ballots as possible. It will force our opposition to spend money and lie. Then we'll be able to adjust and fine tune our campaign for 2012. Just my thoughts, jump in folks.
Prop. 1 is off the table. Any attempts to meddle with it, will be resisted with every available legal means!
The thing that scares politicians the most is democracy.
he does make some good points
Legalization may help us stay out of jail because Leo does not care if you have a card its a money thing to them
Soundless
You are so full of IT Man .... Legalization versus a state entity making patients jump through hoops and spend outrageous amounts of money every year to stay legal, only to have LEO ignore the law anyway. Pull your head out of Greg's ass for a minute ,and look at the truth. Or are you scared of the truth?
I think you are smarter than that Soundless, maybe I am wrong..
girlfriend doesn't end up getting you banned.
you do not have to worry about that we are not trouble makers and we do not know any think about proxy IP's or any thing like that we just sit around and post and read most of the time but some time posting and speaking come out different. thanks Peace to all
multi-accounts.
what does that mean i would like to know how is someone supposed to do if they only have 1 computer and their are more then one person using it at the same house my girl friend has a card from the state and her name on here is different from my screen name.
but we live here togetter as one or multi-accounts.we are new to this posting thing thanks
The way the system is set up,
The way the system is set up, it doesn't allow for the same email to used on multiple accounts. What it can do though is take an IP address and look through the forum, the blogs, the gallery, and show every entree that same IP posted. So in your case it would show that 2 accounts post information from the same IP. No action is needed on your part other then making sure your girlfriend doesn't end up getting you banned.
In the case of someone that's being a trouble maker, the multiple accounts can easily be seen, and banned on IP level as well as banning the email accounts. A "troll" as Greg put it, would then have to either use proxies (which can be a pain to find active ones, so this leads to multiple proxy IP's being used by the same account and can red flag the system) or go to a friends house/internet cafe/etc to make a new account.
Eventually this becomes to cumbersome to the would be troll, where as from the MMMA mods perspective it's a click of link in the post where the troll is being offensive.
OMG. Dude, no offense but if
OMG. Dude, no offense but if you get a real troll you are gonna learn real fast how wrong you are about that.
I know you said you like to work alone but i don't get it. What did you do, write this thing yourself rather than buying a commercial script?
the legalization is about
the legalization is about medical marijuana, because many work places will still fire a person for
having a medical marijuana card.
Dawn
Will it all remain the same?
For some reason, I was just reminded of the chorus lines to that old Ozzie and Lita tune: "If I close my eyes forever . . . will it all remain unchanged?"
Hopefully, all of the original posts will remain unchanged.
Peace & Blessings
Free the Tree
I have seen the promised land
Actually I haven't. But I hear it looks good.
I also have been assured that the software for the new website & forum has "robust user management features" that will make it much easier to deal w/ trolls, curmudgeons and vampires. I assume that means it will screen out multi-accounts.
yep - I read the fine print
yep - I read the fine print "multi-accounts" include, but not limited to "trolls, curs, and bloodsuckers"
If not, a healthy trigger finger from a trusty mod will do the trick!
The Promised Land is looking more like the 'upper hand'....
I want to remind people that
I want to remind people that it is the People that make the forum.
In the past week I have seen more positive posts and replies than I have since I came here in October. I want to see that continue. It is true that good attitude promotes good attitudes. People need to accept that the problems of the MMMP are not of the MMMA, they are problems of all of us.
No more name calling, no more hate, no more fear mongering. The new MMMA is over that.
I look forward to seeing all the great positive people I have met in this forum, on the new forum!
Since you have seen it
Does the new software block multi accounts ?
No...
.and I haven't even seen it. The "multi-accounts" are already here and will get "grandfathered" in.
Invision Power Boards are
Invision Power Boards are very nice.
It will be like moving intot he 20th century compared to this board. Yea i said 20th... ;-)
Joe
Joe, when are you going to FINISH ANYTHING you start? You were gonna do the Springfest concert...CANCELLED... you were gonna set up a wholesale supply store?? You were going to work for legalization??... you are now a steering committee member...when do you ever plan to FINISH anything?
All of things you just
All of things you just mentioned are still alive and well. I offered to cancel Springfest because of the friction it was causing. My offer was refused. I have been working this week on a referendum(legalize/decriminalize) to present at our next meeting based on comments received at our last meeting.. Wolfgang saw it yesterday. I placed it on the calendar earlier today. It's the only action item for our next meeting, except for a class on grow room design. The Coop is very much alive. It is moving forward. These are big task and I'm getting help with all of them. I hope I can still count on you to help me. I am old and I am sick. But I never quit on something once I start. Believe me I am working full time for this community.
Legalize Not Decriminalize
I hope we aren't going to go for decriminalization, we need legalization. To decriminalize would probably keep us in a similar situation that we are in currently.
If they don't take medical marijuana seriously, they won't take decriminalization serious at all.
If we are going to shoot for legalization I'm on board but if we only shoot for decriminalization then it's not going to get much of my attention.
maybe that should be MiNorml
maybe that should be MiNorml 's job.
This site is called michigan medical marijuana - if we are to get focused and use limited resources - we should stay focused on medical marijuana.
If legalization happens because of the success of medical marijuana, so be it.
I am here for medical marijuana. While legalization can help my cause, it is not the reason I am here first for. I am here for patient rights, and medical use of marijuana.
I keep separate the legalization discussion with the public - they keep yelling "You just want to legalize it so kids can smoke it" and my simple reply is "No, I just want sick, patients to have access to a medicine that can help them - about 1 -2 % of the states population" - that keeps the focus on sick people, people that need the meds.
If it's about medical
If it's about medical marijuana than it belongs here.
We want to legalize to help stop the sick from getting hassled.
Quote: "I keep separate the legalization discussion with the public."
Cool and thanks for the suggestions but to me legalization is about medical marijuana. I know this topic is going to strike some medical marijuana folks funny but I believe we ALL have the right to medicate.
Stress, headaches etc. are legitimate reasons to use in my eyes. They are both medical and we ALL have those conditions at least once in a while.
Maybe it should be all of our jobs to legalize sir. We are trusted to use cold medicine or aspirin when we don't feel 100%. I shouldn't need a license to use a medicine that is far safer than most of the drugs we can currently buy over the counter.
Anybody who thinks their condition is more legit than somebody elses is a self righteous ... .. . .....
AMEN. I can't stand all of
AMEN.
I can't stand all of this we're better than them attitude.
NO ONE should be in jail for Marijuana. NO ONE. I don't care if you get headaches. That doesn't mean you should be held to different laws. NOT UNLESS YOU WANNA GO THE FULL MEDICAL ROUTE AND REQUIRE PRESCRIPTIONS, STANDARDS, PHARMACISTS and GOVERNMENT REGULATION.
The medical argument is going to wind up biting us in the ass if we don't get behind full rights to control our own medicine and that means LEGAL.
no one said their condition
no one said their condition was more than yours.
If you want to use it because you have headaches, then thats a medical reason.
If you want to legalize it so people can smoke marijuana in a bar after work, thats not a medical reason to me. Don't mix the term 'medicate' with recreational use.
you mean like at the Roll n'
you mean like at the Roll n' Bowl or Harvest Fest? Man, my head was killing me at those, i needed to keep medicating all night and oddly enough, so did everyone else. ;-)
go ahead trash a social
go ahead trash a social event. It'll be your funeral too.
Everyone feelin mean this am?
i am NOT trashing it or
i am NOT trashing it or feeling mean. You do however refer to it as a social event not a medical event.
We have to be honest or it will bite us in the ass. As we've all seen the past few weeks.
am I not being honest?
there was no competition, no contest, no 'bring your meds to judge'.
It was sick people finally getting out of the house to socialize. I am disappointed at the tacts people will go to further their 'legalize it' arguments - degrading the people that need it for medical reasons.
Well - off to look at my next house.
Stay positive everyone!
what argument is this? it
what argument is this? it wasn't a competition? who said it was. it WAS social. you said so in your own words. You were there. If you don't want to talk about it fine, but don't pretend it's all about medicating all the time.
Let's be honest, smoking cannabis FEELS GOOD. It makes MOST people feel better from all their stresses, aches, pains etc. There's nothing wrong with admitting that.
Apparently you don't get it but....
Stress is a condition that leads to medical problems, it's a proven fact. It's a condition imo. I don't expect you to get it but that's cool.
From what I understand there is going to be a vote on legalization in Detroit. If that passes you can bet that it will end up on the 2012 ballot.
By the way there are more people who consider themselves recreational users than do medical users. I'm sure many of them supported medical marijuana........
Also to ever be able to legally use marijuana for a headache it most likely will have to be totally legalized like aspirin. Is aspirin a recreational drug?
I say legalize as well then we don't have to wait
for other conditions to be added and our medicine will be a easily accessed as aspirin and cold meds.
BB - old and sick we might be
BB - old and sick we might be - but we are strong in spirit.
Considering the 'newness' of the MMMP I think a few bumps in the road is to be expected, we drive on.
My friend, I want to thank
My friend, I want to thank you for being such a positive force in our movement.
I am so fired up and want to get a thousand things done. I am limited by my tired, worn out, old carcass. I will push myself to my limits for this community. There are many wonderful folks in our movement and they deserve to be treated better by our political system. We need more services tailored to our needs. We've got a lot of work to get done. We all need to work together. It will take everyone of us to prevail against those that would exploit us. Thanks again, Joe

Hope this helps.

Reply: Not really sure if this some vague reference to something else, but I can assure you if it's referring to a disbelief in a new system for the MMMA: it's running on my servers at this very moment. Look, I didn't really want the news of the site out myself, but since leaks have been made in the past week I seen no harm in Blueberry's post. Also note I have nothing to do with the MMMA, so any office politics means very little, if anything to me. I can only attest that it's real.
It won't be long guys. Like BB and I talked about though, it needs a bit of beta testing, and the current mods of the site will be messaged soon about where to go to do some "tire kicking" as BB put it.
Best

HURRAY! I rely on this site to tell people about compassion club meetings!
Thanks for your hard work my
Thanks for your hard work my friend! You've done a beautiful job. I'm all jacked up over this new system. You are a true inspiration to us all. I hope in the future we can all pool our talents and volunteerism to make patients and caregivers lives better. Thanks Again, Joe
The IPB software package is
The IPB software package is extremely flexible. I've only spent about 20 minutes on it. There are tons of different settings and the ability to plugin data from other sites. It also allows programmers to embed code into the system. This means that we can expand the system and or modify the system to suit our needs. The system uses a rating system, that is managed by users to determine the overall ranking of the poster. I'm not sure about counters yet that are displayed to the user community(there are so many settings), but there are reports in the backend of the setting that display the info. So if the data is available there we may be able to set a switch to display the data.
There are a lot of sites that use the IPB software on the web. It seems to be solid. We'll know when we open it up to testing. You guys can go and try to break it. I'm trying to learn and understand it's full capabilities. I'll keep you guys posted as progress is made.
Joe
Joe, I was one of the most fervent supporters of Greg. There are too many unanswered questions. I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid....
Man, I got nothing but
Man, I got nothing but respect for you and your opinions. The proof will be in the pudding. I can honestly tell you that Greg is working his butt off to transform the MMMA into a service oriented organization that really services the needs of the community. I am committing my heart and soul to helping Greg out. I think everybody who knows me, knows my heart is with this community. i believe that every organization suffers set backs. It's just like everything else, it's not how many times you get knocked on your butt, it's how many times you get up. i think we've been on the ropes, but the MMMA is too important to go down for the 10 count. I hope you will give the MMMA the opportunity to earn back your trust. You are very important to this organization and the MMJ movement!
Amen and Many Thanks Greg !!!!!!
Blueberry,
Great to hear your excellent feedback.
A great website is a powerful tool !!!!!
Do you know whether there will be a counter re the number of clicks any topic gets ?
I think that counter would be great because it can serve as feedback to the poster-not everyone who reads posts a comment. But in addition it gives us an idea as to just how active this sight is-over and above the number of Users and Guest-which I hope Greg is also planning on retaining.
Many thanks re your thoughts.
sure thing Greg
thanks a lot cant waite till the day comes and the new MMMA froums start up thank you
Peace
