The Cabinet nominee's who could hold sway over changes do not have the history to indicate they would be proponents for change.
I do believe if the President issued an order, such as the DEA adopting a hands-off approach in states which have rendered their opinion regarding Medical Marihuana, they would follow those orders.
Truthfully, the re-authorization of Industrial Hemp has a far greater chance of being implemented. It offers the opportunity for financial gain for Millions of Americans apparently needing massive Economic Infusion by Public Work Projects.
I've been trying to convince anyone that will listen that linking these public works projects with the utilization of Hemcrete (concrete made with Hemp) in 14 weeks, every family farm across America would have a commodity which they can readily sell. Companies who are able to render this commodity into a stronger concrete could then line our highways, byways, bridges and schools with an ever-flowing stream of agricultural concrete.
After that, we can work on banishing all those sometimes scary images created by Reefer Madness and unbathed hippies dancing around the campfires.

I personally believe that would be a bad move for the new president.
he is black, this is a historic mark for the usa. If he was to legaalize or decrim. marijuana he would be public enemy no. 1
There is too much money in prohibition and that would make alot of the major corporations and such very un-easy.
I just don't see any change on a federal level happening in my lifetime.

this is exactly the kind of radical change the US needs!
major corporations bought and sold our freedom/future almost a century ago! (Dupont - Rockafellar - Anhieser Bush)
hell, if they want money soo bad, give them the rights to industrial hemp to replace their products. i really dont care who gets paid i just want to see personal freedom and a realistic approach to preserving our planet. NOW!

Whether or not lasting policy change is effectively implemented in the next few years, current administrative choices have established a precedent that takes us a huge leap forward. By acknowledging the simple existence of valid medicinal use of cannabis, the president and attorney general have created a de facto disqualification of the Schedule I
(no therapeutic value) status of marijuana. I fail to see how the members of our society will shift their long established bias against marijuana if there remains an absence of proof of its benefits. Fortunately, through states exerting their rights to legalize cannabis, we have and will continue to see the evidence necessary to reform old prejudices on the issue. In this age of greater attention to the economy and healthcare reform combined with the swiftness of our information technologies I sincerely believe that a bright future is merely around the corner. Let us remember that although our governance may hold to account those few public individuals at the top, we the people are their sole empowerment and it is nobody but ourselves who will suffer from their failings as well as it is our duty and our glory if we can find instead a greater path to success.

Here in is the key to every man's rightful access to cannabis: GOD.
Pythagoras believed in a God that made man. As an American, Pythagoras has a right to believe in a God, and that God made man.
The Torah records a GOD that made all that exists: air, water, earth, plants, sun and stars, animals, and made man in the image and likeness of GOD. This GOD says HE gives all seed bearing herbs and fruit trees with seed in its fruit to be food for man HE created.
To believe in the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, is to believe that GOD gave cannabis, a seed bearing herb, to man to be food; and as a Torah believer in America, Pythagoras has a right to believe cannabis is a blessing from GOD.
The New Testament declares the Torah and the Prophets to be Scripture and necessarily agrees that cannabis is a blessing from GOD. A Christian in America has a right to believe cannabis is a blessing from GOD.
I cannot speak in behalf of other sources of records of God.
What I can say is RELIGIOUS USE of cannabis is sanctioned by GOD, and by GOD'S Word; and as Americans, we have a right to cannabis, a right worth jointing together to reclaim and maintain.

It's not good to mix God and the law, bad mojo, civilizations have fallen.... If God wants you to partake, he will provide a way. It's easy to believe that right after you have witnessed a miracle, the MM Act in MI.
Right on Dennis.
Hopefully, President Elect Obama will have the guts to reign in the DEA's arresting med users and their growers. It would be a large step in the right direction. Arresting and jailing ill people for using a medicine that is continually being scientically proven simply does not sit well with the public. It is not a very cost effective way to operate. If the government were run by doctors and not lawyers and politicians, they would be in a position to control medical matters. That is a snow ball in **** type of wish.

Who knows. There is the stereotype because of his race, but there is what 12 states now that have legalized it for medical use. So at a different look more then half the states have already made it legal, so if another 2 or three states jump on board during his tenure then yeah i think he should drop the laws, but he should decrease the laws on patients who are legal in there states.

Is everyone waiting for some press conference announcement?
Or, perhaps a directive is working it's way down the chain and the DEA activity will simply fade away and not be as prominent as was during the previous administration?
If the arrests and fear-instilling simply ceased without an explanation, would you be just as happy or would you still require a Prime Time Announcement broadcast Nationwide ?
The message has to be sent loud and clear!! Richard wait until you get your full blown grow going, how are you going to feel when some snitch calls the DEA on you and they kick your door in, kill your dog, drag you out in handcuffs, and generally make your life a living hell for awhile? Think it can't happen?
that Obama and the Dems would work to change drug laws. I actually believe that if a honest, complete assessment were presented to the American populace that the majority of people would agree with decrim, or outright legalization on principal, however, if that were to happen it would affect too many areas of public life. Look at how much money is spent on law enforcement to fight the "war on drugs" and how many people are incarcerated both in county jails and state and federal prisons. If marijuana were legalized, "they" would be essentially admitting that they have been wrong all of this time. People who have been convicted would start petitioning the courts for retroactive exoneration. The state would have to let thousands of prisoners go, which, in turn, would cause a handful of prisons to close, due to the decline in prison population, and the result would be that Corrections Officers would loose jobs. MDOC officers are union workers, as soon as there were serious murmerings of legalization, corrections officers unions & sherif and police organizations would all be up in arms, because so many jobs would be threatened. If would disrupt the entire way that the in-justice system operates.
I've spent over 3 years of my life in Michigan state prisons for drug and drug related offenses, I have seen how that system works too well. The allocation for corrections in the state budget is singly the largest part of the budget. Almost every year I was in prison governor Granholm would work to cut that budget down, often by proposing the closing of two or three old, out dated prisons and releasing a few thousand low-risk inmates. EVERY YEAR there would be protests and pickets out side of those prisons by the C.O.'s and their people. The main complaint would be all the jobs that would be lost by closing those prisons. Very rarely were there any complaints about letting the prisoners go. Generally there would be some sort of compromise, they would let a few go, but not as many as they intended, and they would close one, instead of three prison camps. I could never understand it, there was never debate about whether those 5,000 or so people SHOULD be released, there was little doubt that most were not dangers to society, yet, many of them CONTINUE to languish in prison, why? in order to save jobs?!?

So you are stating that if someone gets busted for Marijuana they should tell the courts in defense that god support me in my marijuana use?

Swearing in the witness would be a new one. Cross examination should be eye opening. I bet the angels would sing at closing.
