Devil's Night 2010

The Criminal Minds episode that aired before Halloween had the team in

Detroit to investigate a serial killer who used arson on "Devils Night" to

try to cover the murders. The "Sheriff" spoke of how many fires there

were on "Devils Night" and also made mention of the fact of the mid

'80's being when the largest # of arson's were set on said Devils Night.

So, this isn't new news.

I remember seeing footage of cars being set aflame in Detroit on

Devils Night.

I would also like to hear an hypothesis as to why this is a phenomenon

of this area.

 

I grew up in the country and each time we would hear fire engines, my

dad would load us in the car and "chase" the fire. We were not the

only ones who did this as many would show up. Most generally these

fires were due to someone "burning off' the ditches or fields when

the wind would shift and the fire would get away from them, instead of

arson. I still find fires fascinating yet prefer to watch them w/in the

confines of a bonfire pit.
