Libertarians Rule, Ds And Rs Drool...

363 posts in this topic

At T-pain's right honorable urging I'm re-posting a political ideology that is more appropriate here in its own thread. It is now an open question to any supporter of any party. Be safe.

Clinton expanded the War on Drugs. Obama expanded the War on Drugs. Obama had a chance to step in and say "NO MORE! the racist policy of prohibition is an affront to all people of this planet. The incarceration and conviction rate discrepancy between races illustrates the initial intent of the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937."

What did the first "black" President of the United States of America do once elected by the people? Did he openly demand that justice be served? No! He continued and expanded the War. He appointed more prohibitionists. People many would vote for because they have a D in front of their name and not that ugly nasty R. They are the same people.

Until the L comes in to play I find it absurd to look at Democrats or Republicans and try to decide who hates me more. They have both illustrated from the top down that they love the money and power they have by arresting users of cannabis (medical or otherwise). A two party system is no good for democracy, life is not either or.

If you try to call me a Republican for hating Democrats just as much I will be upset as I abide by no party. That is America - the voice of the group will always fall short of the individualism that founded what was once a nation of freedom, liberty and opportunity.

I am curious, where do you stand on the second amendment? The Republicans get sympathy because they are seen as the party that supports the second amendment. Two topics split these parties and create the camps: Abortion (Religion) and Guns. Both hate weed, both love taxes and both want to tell you what to do.

This country is a one-party country. Half of it is called Republican and half is called Democrat. It doesn't make any difference. All the really good ideas belong to the Libertarians. - Hugh Downs

I question the motivations of Libertarians too. All politicians appear to want power and money. They find out what people want to hear and then they exploit this knowledge in order to accumulate power. They are all in it for personal gain.

What ever happened to the idea of a true Democracy? The computer age ushered in the possibility that citizens could vote on every issue that effects them. We don't need a representative to vote for us - we can do it ourselves now. We can now indeed "Fire all of the bums!". Getting cameras on police is the issue of the day. How about the next issue being "One citizen, one vote"? This might solve a lot of the problems we have with politicians.

Well,.. Libertarian is a great philosophy that absolutely doesn't work in reality. ;-)

Also, individualism was not what this country was really founded on.  That would be a bit of a misnomer.

And the second someone starts preaching about the second amendment, I instantly realize they have no idea what the other 20+ are.  Typically they can get freedom speech as part of the first amendment.  Drug users tend to know a bit about the 4th, 5th and maybe 6th,...Slavery sympathizers tend to get the tenth amendment(sorta) but from there,... notta.

:-)

Without looking(for shiiits and giggles, What is the 3rd amendment? 16th? and 22nd?

Everyone claims to love the constitution but they have no idea what it says. ;-)

What makes you think constitutional government would not work in this country? It worked just fine until 1913.

Libertarian philosophy is not based on individualism but on rather on individual liberty. The government should leave people to lead their lives the way they see fit as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others.

Without looking(for shiiits and giggles, What is the 3rd amendment? 16th? and 22nd?

I don't know the 16th and 22nd off the top of my head, but I believe the 3rd is the only article of the Bill of Rights that hasn't been nullified by our government. At least I don't know anyone who has been forced to quarter troops in their home.

I think the only functions governments should have is protecting the borders and maintaining a court system to deal with civil matters and crimes that have victims. I'm kind of up in the air about infrastructure, the Chicago Skyway is privately owned and operates just fine.

(I don't really want any government at all. No one ever asked if I wanted to get involved in this whole government scheme in the first place, they're nothing but gangsters as far as I'm concerned.)

To be governed is to be watched, inspected, spied, directed, law-ridden, regulated, penned up, indoctrinated, preached at, checked, appraised, seized, censured, commanded by beings who have neither title nor knowledge nor virtue.

To be governed is to have every operation, every transaction, every movement noted, registered, counted, rated, stamped, measured, numbered, assessed, licensed, refused, authorized, endorsed, admonished, prevented, reformed, redressed, corrected.

To be governed is, under pretext of public utility and in the name of the general interest, to be laid under contribution, drilled, fleeced, exploited, monopolized, extorted from, exhausted, hoaxed and robbed; then, upon the slightest resistance, at the first word of complaint, to be repressed, fined, vilified, annoyed, hunted down, pulled about, beaten, disarmed, bound, imprisoned, shot, mitrailleused, judged, condemned, banished, sacrificed, sold, betrayed, and, to crown all, ridiculed, derided, outraged, dishonored. - Pierre Joseph Proudhon

I really want to discuss this, but I got a wicked headache today.

So basically in quick form and for future discussion when I feel a bit better,..

The main problem with libertarianism is that it runs completely counter to human nature.  A great philosophy, but does not work in reality.

Libertarianism will always devolve into Feudalism.

I would look at the concept of tragedy of the common and the prisoners dilemma for a starter.

I was a libertarian for many years of my life.  I support many libertarian ideals.

But to only try to equate libertarianism with social liberties is rather disingenuous and like only looking at the cherry sitting on a pile of crap.

Libertarianism is an interesting philosophy, but to truly believe it, one must self deceive ones self and ignore the fickle friend known as reality,  and i think it generally shows a degree of an immature political worldview.

;-)

That is about all my brain can handle. Must go be in dark room and hope this headache goes away.

Yeah well, whatever. The only thing I know for sure is that there are a lot of justifiably pis*ed off people in this country who blame the government for their problems.

Some people blame the Republicans for not doing anything. Others praise the Republicans for not doing anything. I think that the system has broken down and left the average Joe out in the cold to fend for himself just like Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged) envisions.

Ok. Maybe it isn't that bad yet, but that is where some people want to take us. There has to be some happy medium between total government control and anarchy. I hope we can find it before they start filling up those detention camps.

My 93 year old father believes that there is going to be another World War. And he doesn't smoke cannabis or do drugs. He was, however, in WWII. Tensions build up in the world until they reach the explosion point. He thinks we are close to that.

Is that real Greg? I know Bachmann spews and spreads misinformation, ie. Pray the gay out of you or HPV vaccine in young women causes cancer, or something to that effect. But this ones pretty good if it's really her camp. I figured she'd go wacky doodle since she's not running again, this would be par for the course I guess, lmao

It's a game of inches and some can't measure small amounts ....

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

You just nailed it as to why the thread title is so wrong. It's never been just me in my boat. That's what it means to be a true Democrat; you have always spoke out for everyone. True Democrats don't hate on anyone for their personal choices and they don't hide when others do that, they bring the light and show the injustice. Been doing that my whole life.

in 2016 the prez with be repub and the senate will be repub!

every one is blaming obama for the mess with isis, I watch all new stations I dont watch fox to often but when im desperate I do, I mainly watch cbs, abc, nbc news, headline news, cnn and than fox, they all blame obama for the i.s movement and think the u.s should do more, his numbers are falling like mad, and I dont think he cares, he is in his last yrs of being prez and the country and world is going to hell on his watch, I know he didnt start the wars, his campain promises are becoming his demise!  he sent holder to be with other leaders in france, why didnt he at least send john kerry? wtf is holder to the rest of the world, most prob dont even know who he is!

It always happens 8 yrs of a dem leads to 8 or 12 yrs of a repub!

so if you dont want to waiste your vote I would advise not voting for hillary(i would advise hillary not to run yet) if history means anything we will have a repub prez in 16, now its will only be the best of the worst to pick from!

Peace

So basically democrat is an ideology and no one really fulfills it.  Or is that socialism you are describing?

Let me also add, Obama cannot change the law.  That is up to congress.  Congress decides funding as well.

Excuses, excuses.  He can "do" whatever he wants.
