Mexican Dreams
hey there
im douglas and these are a collection of stories from the feilds
sinaloa mexico in the 80s was pretty mellow
no dea no cartels in your face
easy country living for a gringo
at first i fished with my freind juan on his boat and we sold our catch to the hotels and resorts
after about a month of that i met his cousin who is also juan
i had been buying 20 peso sacks on the beach and smoking alone the whole time as juan didnt smoke
so when i met juan and he pulled out a fat crooked joint i was stoked
the weed was sweet and spicy and started dripping goo the minute we lit it up
it was way more potent than what id bee getting on the beach
wich was a strong sativa that was still fresh and uncompressed
both juans spoke good english so the conversation flowed along way faster than it would have in my pidgen spanish
of course i wanted to know all about the herb he had
as we continued puffing the end of the J would plug with resin and wed snip it off
he told me that his cousin sent him the seed from china
i was incredulous but rolled with it
over the next 4 hrs and 3 joints he picked my brain for info
he was especially intersted in growing sinsemillia
given the number of growers in the area it was not easy to do
so long story short 4 days later i find my self on a little island 2 miles off shore in the sea of cortez
there were 2 other boats there a big one and a long one
the big one had about 500 lbs of loosley baled plants on it
the smell was pallatable from 50 meters
4 mexicans and to idigenos were working thre way across the island harvesting heavily seeded females
the males were being chopped and trampled into the soil
a tin drying shack took up one small corner by the dock but other than that every other inch of the islands 3 acres was covered with weed or stubble from plants
they were all under 6 ft and mostly sagging with th weight of the buds
squat round plants with very short internodes
long skinny tight seed laden colas arranged like a chandalier around on giant grand cola
i helped harvest all day and had more fun than i though possible
any one who knows farming knows that hand harvesting the herb in quanity is alot of work
but i bareley noticed it
all day i was planning and designing the system for growing sinsemilla
we smoked and cut and trimmed leaves and smoked and talked
it was an awesome experience
two weeks later i moved on to the island
i was alone though i had a boat if the weather got scary
it was nov but still pretty reasonable weather
i started construction on the green house first as it was to be a temporary shelter for myself and materials
i spent 2 wks in my tent building the frame and digging a foundation for the greeny
i made a small area to the front of the 100 by 50 structure that worked as an air lock and would be the place to clean off and put on tyveck before going in to tend the plants
this became my house for now as it was the only shade
i did alot of work on the feilds surrounding me as well
bringing liquid fish from the mainland canneries
tilling and areating and such
once the final filters and plastic had arrived it was time to make it a nursery
getting an early start was a perk of having the greeny
so i started seeds
about 3ooo of them from what my freind in cali had identified as a thai sativa
juan came to see me right about the time i was sexing the plants
so i showed hom how and we spent the whole day talking about it
the plan was to keep the greeny locked down and pollen free
to start every thing in there and always pull males
that way even if by chance the island was to get pollenated the greeny would still provide a good amount of sinsemilla
i stayed there untill right after planting
i trained a young man named hegdar to run the whole system
made sure they had access to replacements for filters and such and hit the rd
i can still get good sins from that green house as far away as cabo san lucas
sometimes the winds are kind and pull the whole island with little to no seeds
the blessing for me ?
to be left alone with just the sea and the plants and live with out fear in paradise doin what i do
i learned tomes about seedling behavior just from the sheer scale of the work
and tons more about how a plant maes its enviornment work for it
just a remembrance i thought id share
D
