HerbRx
I'm pretty new at this along with many on here. Woundering how many watts most people use. Do you use a 1000w or a coupe 400w? What are the most popular? Do you use a mover?

What are the most popular? Do you use a mover? I started off with a simple economy 400 watt hps and had a really nice yield then i went to a 1000 watter and grew some really big buds with a decent yield but my power bill went through the roof along with my room temperatures . I'm now using a lumatek 600 watt electronic ballast with a eye hortilux bulb the flower colors are just amazing i wish i would have went with this bulb and ballast from the start. I grow in a 5x5 space utilizing a aircooled hood so no Ive never felt the need for a light mover .
LongHairBri
I would ONLY bloom under 1000w HPS. grow is open to plenty of choices, even a t5 will work well. I feel the more light the better, especially in bloom.

Very true but using the big lamp in more confined spaces brings up a lot of probloms i vented my 1000 watt hps directly outside and still on kool days i was running in the low 80s just imagine what happens when it hits 95+ ? The 600 watt runs very kool in my enclosed hood and i only use 1/4 of my inline fans power to keep it manageable.
rockinlespaul
When I got into this the first thing I bought was a 1000 watt digital switchable system. Go big, right? Then I got my first cuttings to make clones from and thought "that 1000 watter is gonna kill these poor lil babes!" So I went and bought a nice T5 4 foot 4 bulb setup. That worked well. But then that wasn't cutting it as far as growth went so I went and bought a enclosed 400 watt switchable system. The growth exploded under that. After a week of that in MH mode, they went under the 1000 in MH mode and growth exploded again. I did not research well enough obviously, but it did end up working out well in the end. I'd start small and move up from there. It's much easier that way. If I had it to do all over again, I probably would have waited on the 1000 and put money into other things while using the T5 and 400. Good luck.... GanjaWarrior
i grow with 2 400 watt lights.... keeps heat down, still plenty of watts to get those fat chunky nuggs we know and love. plus the fact is two points of light always give u better coverage... two points of light means more bud

Ryoki
I started with two 400w bulbs and added another light for better coverage. My flower room is 12x7. I went with 400 because I got them for free. They use them on constrution sites and I just asked the electrician for one. He gave me four with ballast and lamps. LongHairBri
I wouldn't use a 400 in bloom EVER! Even in a 4X4 footprint. there's just not enough lumens. My buddy use to swear by them, till I took his clones, doubled the harvest, AND was done 2.5 weeks earlier!!!! Use the strongest light you can while still controling the heat. 600's will work fine, but if you can 1000w WILL produce better.
boroboro
I used a single 400 for several crops, worked for me and I was happy. I clearly needed more after signing up a patient, so I upgraded to 2 x 1000W HPS in a 5x8 foot space. Wow! That's a Lot of Light! Definitely needed to step up my game as far as air conditioning, airflow, and feeding, but the plants sure do like all that light. So, if you can afford it, more is better. Switching lights is not going to defeat a pre-progammed genetic destiny. This is wrong. Lighting will not make a plant flower any quicker. Go take ant basic botany class. Flowering is genetics..period.
Meadow
Digital NextGens and Lumateks. 600 Watters both brands can go to 400 then back up to 600 for Flower. I use Sunleave bulbs and Hortilux but doing research on SunPulse.... The biggest issue i have with sunpulse bulbs and running them on my Digital ballasts for optimum performance... is that they only come in metal halide, not HPS. I started off with a 400w magnetic, upgraded to a 600w lumetek, and current have several 1000w lumetek's and a lonely SunSystem 1000w econco grow. While i still have the 600w lumetek in use ( MH for a complete spectrum within my flower room amongst the 1000w HPS, however the 400 hasnt been fired up in forever. DLD420
I use 2 430 HPS and 2 2 bulb T5's on 2 sides in a 4x7Mylar enclosed area, and a 6000 btu window shaker mounted in the wall. Works great.
