Bubble Puppy - A Gathering of Promises LP

Bubble Puppy is a Texan psychedelic rock band originally active from 1966 to 1969. They are best remembered for their Top-20 hit "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass". Bubble Puppy scored a Top-20 U.S. hit in 1969 with their single, "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass". The name was a misheard line lifted from an episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies". The single peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 100 and number 15 (RPM) in Canada. In addition, the song was at the top of many radio station playlists over the summer of 1969. The song was also covered internationally, by The Mooche in the UK. In 1969, Bubble Puppy released their first full-length album, A Gathering of Promises. However, despite Bubble Puppy's early success with the "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" single, they experienced numerous conflicts with International Artists, and parted ways with the label in 1970.

They got big in the UK during the Detroit Garage Rock revival with a string of hits.  I worked at some of their first shows back when they were called The Wild Bunch.  They were entertaining!

Black Flag's final show 6/27/86 at The Graystone Ballroom in Detroit.  Witnessed the Ann Arbor show the night before at the Nectarine (formerly The Second Chance.)  I still have never seen anything so intense.  Rollins was maniacal.  Word on the street is this show was so violent it made him swear off Hardcore forever.
