What Is A Good Ph Meter

Recommended Posts

I bought an Oakton PH pen earlier this year to replace the cheap but inaccurate ph test drops. About $70 at a local shop, as I recall. It does need to be calibrated every week or two, but it's just a single point, one button calibration, very easy.

I tested the meter quite a bit to make sure I understood how it works, and I'm now very confident in it. My plants thanked me as well. Highly recommended.

Never seen a Ph meter before, but I can see how they are helping people with measuring tap water and runoff etc...

What's a good one to get without spending alot of money?

hi mellow.

well, you have some good info here, thats for sure.

the hanna champ: http://www.4hydroponics.com/growroom/pH2.asp?ItemNo=champPH

is budget, but way better than test strips or drops.

my oakton broke last year and i picked one up as a stand-in until i was ready to blow a big wad and pick up another blu-lab: http://www.4hydroponics.com/growroom/pH2.asp?ItemNo=blueLabGuardian

now it sits on my shelf as a back-up, but i like it for the 50 bucks.

there really is no cheap way around it.,..... and as with everything else in this world, you get what you pay for.

a nice 3-in-1 should be your goal in the end though. something portable and somewhat durable: http://www.4hydroponics.com/growroom/pH2.asp?ItemNo=oaktonMulti35

Wow! Those little buggers are expensive!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Just for the heck of it I wanted to ask... Do you have to keep the testing tip wet at all times or it will no longer work? Somewhere I thought I read that and figured they were too sensative for a clumzy ox like me. I donno just guessing over here now.

Peace:),

depends on the model, but most of the time yes.

i use mine daily, so after use, i just wash off the element, fill the cap with a few drops of r.o. water and put it back on. works fine for me.
