Ryan Edger, 28, remains a patient at Battle Creek Health System, where he was taken after the shooting about 11 p.m. Thursday.

Battle Creek police said Edger was one of three men wearing masks when they kicked open a side door and entered a home in the 100 block of Cliff Street, apparently searching for money or other property.

Edger was armed with a handgun, detectives said, and the others may have been armed also. A man and woman and the woman's 7-year-old girl were inside the house and a short time later the woman's boyfriend, 28, returned to find the robbers still inside.

This is a natural result of ripping.

Rip enough times and someone will get hurt very badly.

It may not be the first time. Or the second.

But at some point, someone will get hurt.

It may be the home owner.

It may also be the ripper.

Want to gamble? Go to a casino. Don't gamble with your life.

Patients, caregivers and dispensaries are off limits in Michigan to rippers.

Patients/CG/CC/Disp should be off limits to rippers, you are absolutely right!

Every patient / CG has the right to defend themselves and should own the equipment to do so. It is a right of ours afterall.

If your a patient that would like an education on guns/handling/shooting pm me and Ill take you to the range until you are comfortable handling your equipment. Don't own any equipment, you can borrow mine for the day :) Or if you an enthusiast that needs a shootin pard, hit me up.

whats a ripper?

A ripper is someone that breaks into peoples homes to steal marijuana.

It used to be an easier target. Many people will avoid owning a firearm while growing marijuana. That was because any marijuana growing was completely illegal.

When a ripper would "hit a lick" on a grow location, they didn't have to worry about the victim calling the police.

Many times the police would consider the ripper a valuable asset in the war against marijuana. A good source of information about growing in the area where the ripper was working.

Things are different now. We are law abiding citizens. And we are no longer an easy target.

What needs to take place now is for law enforcement to stop giving rippers a free ride. Giving rippers a free pass encourages break ins for every place within the rippers area. Growers and non growers alike. This is a situation where law enforcement helps criminals commit their crimes.

It's time for that to stop. As it has been.

Yes Rashore.. ripper = pot thief, was coined out in Cali with the outdoor grows, someone could come in and literally "rip" you off.. lol.. rip a plant outta the ground and run...

And PEOPLE... If you get raided/inspected and you have a gun on the same premises as your grow, the cops automatically have 2yrs to hang over your head IF they find a crime has been committed...

The gun adds 2yrs of federal time to just about anything, CCW or not...

I'm stirring the pot here, I don't own guns, but I recently herd this from a very informed soul... Please discuss...

How you gonna be able to tell if its the police or a ripper kicking in your door? They both use the same tactics. What happens if you shoot an officer in this situation?

This is the best reason why you do not brag about or show off your garden even to a life long friend. My neighbors don't have a clue to what I'm doing and they're fifty feet from my house and if that ol'biddy knew what I was doing she'd drop a dime in a heart beat.

Its also been posted here about setting up security cameras that record and store off site so you don't lose the evidence that could help catch the thief's.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Peace

They better identify them selfs which is procedure if I'm not mistaken. Unidentified they are just another a-cavity busting through the door, correct??

Something is odd about that story though. A .223 is what is used in the M16/AR15 assault rifle. There are very few handguns that will fire it and I don't know any semi autos that will. Also this guy may have a problem. It says he took the gun away from the robber then went and got his gun and shot him. How was his life threatened once he had the bad guys gun? We either have not heard this whole story or the story is not very accurate.

The bigger picture is this is going to give people ammunition to change the law.
