I also heard this! Of course I heard it was because, using a MAC lowers your IQ so low, that you may never be able to use a REAL computer again! :) I'm just sayin'!!

Too funny! The nice thing about Mac is that you can run windows in a sandbox. I call it a kitty litter box because the only time my Mac crashes is when windows takes a crap.

I prefer Intel based hardware. If you hand pick what processor is going to be in your system you can compare the wattage consumed by it and pick a relatively cool running and quick at same time.

Example would be near 60 watts and dual core. The E8400 Wolfdale 65 watt 45nm 3.0GH dual core WAS a great pick before Core i7 processor came out.

Rusty now as have not built one up in a few years.

Can not stand the proprietary (hardware) which means you have to buy replacement components from them as opposed to going to a computer parts store, brands such as Dell, HP, Etc.

I 2nd the "buy a mac" suggestion.

If you have to deal with word, excel and such, then buy Microsoft Office for the Mac. Wait for it, I see it every year for under $60. Other than that, I run parallels so i can run the few windows apps I must run, like Quickbooks, Quicken (the Mac vsrsions suck) and HerbIQ.

The OS is unix, so it is fairly stable. Try googling for help on common issues, but add "mac" or "os x" as additional search terms. This will give you an idea of the free support provided. An important issue for me.

Also, buy the service contract.

Apple just replaced my 2007 Mac Pro with a 2010 Mac Pro a couple months ago, after 3 attempts at fixing a weird hardware problem that popped up.

The iMac is an excellent choice for a desktop, otherwise you might like the Macbook Pro. I love mine.

I used to use PCs from their inception, but switched to mac, once they started using Intel processors.

Hope this helps!

if you can afford the Macbook its SO worth it.

BUT if you want a desk top. i would really suggest building one. if you can grow a plant, you can build a computer.

for what you spend at Best Buy with 500.00 you can build a machine that is 2 to 3 times the compueter for about the same price.

Stay AWAY from the HPs. they have went seriously down hill in the last 3 yrs.

id get a Dell or a IMB, or an Alienware for a desktop if buiding isnt an option.

for a laptop, an Alienware, Dell, or Lenova (IBM)

Have you tries reinstalling OS?

when you say crash...blue screen? Locks up?

You can save a lot of money just rebuilding the tower you already have. Most of the parts are interchangeable. One Dell 8400 had a proprietary power supply on it. I took a wheel grinder and modified the case (lots of sparks, neighbors already think I'm nuts), slapped a new power supply in, upgraded the ram to 4 gigs and two years later it runs fast and cool.

The first thing I always check is the hard drive. Take it out shake it, if it rattles throw it away and replace.

max out the ram while you're ordering parts and you can maybe save some $$$.

good luck man, I loved you story about getting pulled over.
