Howdy folks! *wave*

I am new here and would like to know if anyone knows if anxiety and/or depression are qualifying conditions for MM certification.

I do have chronic pain and have suffered from migrains for years but as I have been self medicating for years I have never documented with my doctor of the pain as I felt I was taking care of my condition and did not need to. I do not like pharmaceuticals at all and prefer natural herbal methods always.

I do however have it documented as suffering from depression and axiety over the past several months as many corners of my life have been thrown into turmoil. I have also stopped "self medicating" on a regular basis when this upheaval occured as it could become quite a sticky situation for me. As a result my axiety and depression is getting worse. I doing the best I can with St. Johns wart but I know it would be much better with my normal "medicine".

*sigh* I have searched and searched and cannot seem to find anything supporting anxiety and/or depression as qualifying conditions, yet sit seems to me that I remember reading about it several months ago.

My family care provider does not certify so that is not an option. I also am trying to avoid going in on 3 different dates to complain of pain and getting no relief. I already do natural things to help aid in my pain relief, it is not enough. I practice yoga, eat very naturally and in genaral am in really good health. I do not have insurance. I cannot afford a series of visits and prescriptions (I will never actually ingest). My pain is not my biggest concern though. I have self medicated dominantly over the years to combat my axiety issues. I guess you could say I use it the same way others use Xanax. My doctor has prescribed Xanax now a couple times and I have taken it but I do not like it. I find it to be way too strong and addictive. I took one the other day because my anxiety got so bad I had broken out like all the sudden I had chicken pox and 30min later I could barely move it wiped me out sooo much. She has me on the lowest dose and I have take half a dose at times but I still do not like it. Not to mention as it is habit forming she gives me only a few pills at a time so I only use them in "extreme" cases. This seems rediculous to me. Why should be waiting till my axiety gets soooo extreme to take care of the issue when I know if I just had my "usual medicine" this could all be avoided and I would not be breaking out with chicken pox like symptoms.

Any info you may have or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you very much!!

welcome to our home...away from home.....well mine is actually smack dab in the middle of my house LOL

nevermind...

medicating this am...

anxiety is not covered in our current law as i understand it....which is sad., because MM actually helps way better than any pharmaceutical for anxiety and depression.

i vote to have you allowed. (if only my vote counted)

oh wait it does.

i vote to add anxiety and depression to the list of approved ailments.

good luck with your search

welcome to the information capital of the web

peace

Welcome to the site and waves back.. Blessings to all MM patients and caregivers!!

Many ppl who take medicines for anxiety and depression qualify because of the side effects of those drugs. Visit a MM specialist to see if you qualify.. Peace..

Where does one find a MM specialist? I keep looking online but I can't tell if anything is legit or not. I have called a total of 4 places only to get a really lame answering machine. "Please leave your name and number and one of our staff will get back to you as soon as possible.". Nothing identifyig I am even calling the right place. I am very sceptical of leaving my name and number. One place told me to stay on the line and a specialist would be with me shortly, I waited for 3min, then a digital voice told me "thank you, have a nice day." and hung up. *sigh*

Since anxiety and depression are not on the list as 'qualifying' conditions no medical professional or specialist could write a legitimate recommendation for MMJ use. And if they did, MDCH would have to deny your patient application. The law required MDCH to assemble advisory panels that would consider questions such as expanding the list of qualifying ailments but don't think they've ever been formed. Recently the MDCH's duties have been moved to the new Licensing Department via Gov. Snyder's executive order. Maybe if you lobby, rail and write someone in the Licensing Dept., they will take that requirement of the law seriously? Your unceasing input and prodding is needed in Lansing and for that I would be greatful.

Thank you all so much for all the welcomes, suggestions and info!

I had a visit with doctor today and am now documenting. I am having records faxed from old chiro to new doctor as she is a DO and can practice chiro as well.

I feel I am finally on the right track and should have good news in the coming weeks!!

Take care all!!

Welcome! St. Johns wort is an MAOI, please be careful

When MAOIs were first introduced in the 1960s, the country was swept by a wave of deaths from inexplicable brain hemorrhages.

Foods to Avoid

Eventually, the link between MAOIs and tyramine was discovered, so the banned drugs could be reintroduced along with a warning for patients to restrict their diets. Foods high in tyramine and which are forbidden include:

* alcoholic beverages (especially chianti, sherry, liqueurs, and beer)

* alcohol-free or reduced-alcohol beer or wine

* aged foods, especially aged meats and cheeses

* smoked or pickled meat, poultry, or fish

* bologna, pepperoni, salami, summer sausage, or any fermented sausage

* meat with tenderizers, unfresh meat, meat extracts, canned meats

* dried and pickled fish, including caviar, anchovies and pickled herring

* liver, especially chicken livers.

* cheeses (especially strong or aged varieties), except for cottage and cream cheese

* fermented foods and homemade breads with a lot of yeast

* fruit: raisins, bananas, canned figs, red plums, avocados, or any overripe fruit

* vegetable products: green bean pods, eggplant, Italian broad beans, soy sauce

There are additional foods which can only be eaten in moderation. All of this information is given to patients who are prescribed MAOIs by their doctor. As you can see, the list is very extensive and includes a lot of popular foods; because of this, many people find taking MAOIs to be very difficult.
