Ann Arbor Council Votes

Just received this in a email:

 

WheW!

For some reason i sent a e-mail to city council 4 days ago telling

them to not be derailed by any devious antidemocratic machinations by

the malevolent city attorney Stephen Postema.I included a great sheet

on cannabis medical research and a redlined copy of what still needed

to be changed.

Before the meeting the word got out that the Mayor had said that

everything would probably be postponed tonight - inedefinitely. We had

come within a hairs breath of finishing the licensing and zoning

ordinances...and evil demon Postema had convinced the Mayor (who I

think is just great) that a terrible legal decision (if you are

running a dispensary) was coming down in a month...so everything

should be put on hold now to see how all the court decisions play out.

The mayor is our ally, "darth" postema temporarily siezed his mind.

So...I spoke at the beginning of the meeting & SLAMMED THE idea of

postponement & again at the "Public Hearing" , & emphasized how close

we were to the finish line.

I thought we were lost because the mayor and the Postema scummbag were

so strongly out to undo all the progress I had made...but the council

turned against them.

Ultimate superhero councilmember Sabra Briere tossed out a few good

amendments and then said "Who wants to get this done?" and council

outvoted the mayor and the right wingers and passed two new laws,

zoning, and licensing.

We now have new laws on zoning and licensing that aren't bad - i don't

have the final text.

THE MAIN THING IS THAT WE DEFEATED ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR ZONING OR

LICENSING OR SEARCH OR INSPECTION OR FEES FOR REGULAR CAREGIVERS OR

PATIENTS, AND WE GOT AT LEAST A DOZEN LICENSED DISPENSARIES FOR PEOPLE

WHO NEED THEM.

THIS WAS A YEAR LONG STRUGGLE...EVERY TWO WEEKS. *MANY PEOPLE CAME AND

HELPED*, AND SPOKE, AND DEMONSTRATED, & TO ALL OF YOU i AM ETERNALLY

GRATEFUL.

We will win this - we will refuse to lose - & meds will get to

Must be nice to be one of the licensed dispensaries...I guess. I wouldn't want to be in that position feeling like a million times more of a sitting duck. Be careful what you ask for?
