IMPORTANT UPDATE: Last month, the Lower House of the Dutch government approved a plan that would keep out foreigners from cannabis coffeeshops by introducing a membership card system, which would allow only Dutch residents to enter coffeeshops and purchase cannabis. It now seems only a matter of time.

 

The clock is ticking...

 

This week, the Dutch town of Heerlen went ahead with a scheduled ban on the smoking of cannabis. Just smoking cannabis is now illegal there!

 

Who's next?

 

In April, the Dutch Supreme Court handed down a ruling that home cannabis growers with even a single plant will face prosecution if they do not immediately give up their plant(s) to police that come knocking. It used to be that home growers were allowed to have up to five plants for personal use without worrying about the cops. Not anymore.

 

All this comes in the face of the banning of magic mushrooms two years ago, the forced closure of all cannabis coffeeshops in several Dutch towns recently, and the announced coming closure of dozens of highly popular coffeeshops in the most popular nightlife spot in Amsterdam.
