Michael Komorn
Schuette has mixed approach to states rights http://michiganmessenger.com/51587/schuette-has-mixed-approach-to-states-rights Attorney General Bill Schuette is in favor of states’ rights when it comes to banning affirmative action but not when it comes to legalizing medical marijuana. Christine at Blogging for Michigan points out the discrepancy. Back in June Schuette filed a brief in support the City of Livonia which is trying to ban medical marijuana use and sales on the grounds that it violates federal law. Schuette argues that the Michigan Medical Marijuana Act is preempted by federal law. Michigan law trumps federal law for Schuette, however, when it comes to affirmative action. Last month when the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Michigan’s constitutional amendment that bans consideration of race, gender and ethnicity in college admissions and government hiring because it treats minorities unfairly, Schuette promised to defend the law. Christine calls this “the ongoing hypocrisy of Bill Schuette.” Posted by: Michael Komorn 1800-656-3557

GregS
I have seen occasional MMMA responses to journalism in some media outlets. They are, however, reactive, and the organization would do well to take the initiative to make its positions widely known. We get into the press a lot, and we are often quoted. the mmma is actually working on having a television show. It is coming soon. Gathering a lot of original programing footage. But you are correct responses are needed.
