Part Time Congress

Recommended Posts

Every now and then I get so mad that it turns into a brillant idea and this morning it happened again! I read an article in the GR Press about a former state congressman that was charged with child molestation and still will receive his pension of almost $80,000 a year when he goes to prison! Now I got fumming mad, not just about the child molestation but about $80,000 a year in a pension for 15 years service and we are paying for it!!! Then the lightbulb turned on a "Voter Initiative with a part-time congress and no pensions and no benefits!!" I got to thinking that they take off almost 4 months a year and why should they get a pension when alot of the things they have done in the past has caused thousand's of people to lose their pensions and benefits here in this state. Just think of the huge savings to this state!!! I think this is the way we can get a handle on this out of control legislature we have in this state. Tell me what you think? We'd have to get a Lawyer or someone like that to draft it but it could be done and on the ballot by 2012. Lets all chime in here, I'd like to see what kind of support we can get!!

WHY SHOULD YOU BE PAID FULL-TIME WHEN YOU ONLY WORK PART-TIME AND SURELY DON'T WORK FOR THE PEOPLE YOU REPRESENT!!!

Acually just saw something on CNN this morning about how politicians get to retire at 50 something with full benefits. Yep. Their salaries and benefits need to be cut. Bigtime. I cant even really deal with the whole child molestation thing. I worked with abused girls for many years. After someone is molested, their life is changed forever and then people act like its their fault.

Yes any child being molested is a horrible thing and no way do I think he should get his pension!! But why should we be paying pensions and benefits to people that just seem to keep cutting other peoples pensions and benefts? IT's time WE THE PEOPLE cut their pensions and benefits!!! After all we have to Share the Sacrifices, Right MR. SNYDER?

It sounds good on the surface, but the result would probably be politicians who are more open to corruption. They would be more liable to accept money from lobbyists to support legislation.

We sure do need to do something about these people though. They complain about government spending, cut programs that benefit the middle class, and then vote to pay themselves outrageous benefits.

We need to incorporate competition into the election process. Vote for the person who pledges to cut legislative pay the most! Make it an issue.

For some reason this topic brings Eric Cantor and John Boehner to mind. Both of those guys are creepy. You just know that they are making out like bandits while they are working behind the scenes to screw us as much as they can.
