Medical Marijuana Company Leaves Oakland County After Raids

Big Daddy's Management Group -- a big player in the medical marijuana industry -- emptied the firm's Oak Park headquarters on Thursday to leave Oakland County.

The county's Narcotics Enforcement Team raided sites Wednesday in Commerce Township, where defense attorneys said 34 caregivers grew the drug in 34 leased and locked units.

Adding to the county's reputation as hostile turf for medical marijuana, the action also showed ratcheting pressure statewide on medical pot.

"We're going from five locations in the state to four" -- in Chesterfield Township, Detroit, Livonia and Burton near Flint, said Big Daddy's spokesman Rick Thompson. The move from an Oak Park industrial park involves a dozen employees, Michigan Medical Marijuana Magazine and a business that marketed indoor cultivation equipment, Thompson said.

In the Commerce Township raids of properties called Absolute Herbal Remedies, about two dozen officers burst into buildings on Ruler Drive and Welch Road, making no arrests but seizing about 500 plants and tens of thousands of dollars in growing equipment from 34 individually controlled growing rooms, defense attorneys said.

The growers were operating in strict compliance with state law, and the resulting legal cases will show that police abused their power, attorney Colin Daniels said.

"There were no sales or deliveries there," Daniels said.

"These people relied on the section in the law that said patients' and caregivers' properties shall not be seized," attorney Neil Rockind added.

But Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe said the raids were approved by county prosecutors and that officers had search warrants.

"We've followed the law, and everything we've done has been upheld by the courts" in dozens of previous raids of medical marijuana sites, McCabe said.

"This has nothing to do with medical marijuana. It has to do with breaking the law and profiteering from marijuana," he said.

Laughable stance by a career marijuana profiteer seizing property, auctioning it off, profiting more than anyone in any business other than THIEVES.

25 people indicted on 40+ cases of armed robbery for each of the locked and enclosed facilities. That is what the charge in THIS case should be Mr. Prosecutor.

Your paradigm towards marijuana is a fallacy, the people have spoken.

It no longer matters what you believe people's reason to use marijuana is, if they participate in your LARA system they are showing a good faith effort of a law abiding citizen. If a 500 plant grow facility is separated in to locked and enclosed facilities, this is a clear attempt to follow a law, not break it.

How much do you have to get paid off to sleep at night knowing the wrong you are committing on the country you claim to serve.

Let my words ring louder in your ears each day until they deafen you from the ominous requests of your current leader to kill the democratic process in litigation on the minutiae that is medical marijuana relative to the cases you and your leaders should be focused on, Heroin, Violence, Criminals who are trying to break laws, not citizens clearly trying to follow them.

"This has nothing to do with medical marijuana. It has to do with breaking the law and profiteering from marijuana," Mike McCabe .

I doubt any distribution model supported by those in Government who are trying to narrow the focus of the Act will be free without any profit so that excuse rings hollow with me . We know States through Universities have not been able to even aquire licenses to grow for research despite years of court battles so anything outside our caregiver system is truly mute and only envisioned by people non educated on all sides of the topic or desiring to confuse the issue .

One thing for sure is patients creating their own supply is the best way to acheive innexpensive access which apparently patients agree with Law Enforcement is very important . Microgrows by necessity due to Federal constraints are the only way to provide supply for patients . This operation in Commerce Twp appears to be well thought out if the Holder memo is followed in good faith though at first glance it appears shocking . Many participants felt they had no other viable choices to have personal grows which have many advantages in cost over direct purchaseing . , When questioned why go this route one patient was overheard to have stated that this alternative eased their fears the State may accuse them of being unfit parents by growing at home They were afraid of a no knock raid similar one which destroyed living areas in another area of the state . Forfeiture of household items and interuption in daily living ..I think this reflects how little progress we have made towards accepting cannabis as a medicinal item of importance .

It is sore throat season again , slippery elm bark easily found in GNC or other health food stores works better then anything else I have ever used . When my father had tubes running into his stomach agrevating his throat i would buy them for him and they helped he said . This link is dead but shows a picture of what a box looks like if you have a GNC around they usually stock them . Natural remedies like cannabis often help and have no viable substitutes . Time for Flue shots also .

Good move by Big Daddy's Management, abandoning Oakland County. For their safety and security everyone who grows or uses mmmj shoud follow them out until those nazis in Oakland County get their ears pinned back for defying the people's law. If u stay, u've been warned a thousand times. Don't come begging on this site for support when u get legal probs over mmmj in Oakland. It's not IF but WHEN.

And caregivers renting spaces raided in the Commerce raids, lawyer up, and meet a bail bondsman. Charges r coming yr way.
