Myths And Madness...or Is It True?

I wanna hear peoples takes on ,extended periods of darkness before flower or at the end of flowering cycle, intense heat within a few days of harvest(i.e 80-85 without co2,83 to 90 with co2 or more?)any "miracle" products floating around?

Basically anything out of the ordinary that you do or use that from your EXPERIENCE makes a dif in strain/plant?

Im asking because ive seen quite a few dif outcomes from strains I have that have went around, not necassarily(i kno i spelled that wrong)better than my own but different.i.e some were really stinky but fluffy, others were dense but less sticky..still crystally dense and sticky but did.t smell strong, others were just down right horrible.CAN THIER really be that much of a difference between a slight dif in nutes/

methods/enviorments.

I have experience doing extended dark time at the end of flowering for AK-48. I have done side by side comparisons, and I have drawn a conclusion.

Putting your plants in the dark for a couple days at the end of flowering does fatten up the buds. However the control plant, that was left under lights and not given dark, looked pretty close to the dark period plant.

I would say a few days of dark does fatten up buds some, but not the drastic amount that everyone wants to see.

ps. all results are with clones, and are not from seed.

Madness about CO2, people need to stop using it during the last couple weeks of harvest. CO2 makes the plant work on foilar growth, and not resin/chemical production. Thats why some good looking buds, are impotent.

Fact: Bigger pot size (or in hydro, root ball size) means bigger yeilds. Switching from 5 gallon to 10 gallon pots was the best thing i ever did. Even the small 'popcorn' sized buds on the lower, inner branches are bigger. The main stem grew bigger and fed the plant so well. If you want to try a simple change up, with out messing with your perfected soil mix and nute formula - just try a larger pot. Plants can still be flowered or grown to harvest under 5'

Myth: Marijuana was from tropical areas and can handle high temps. No, sadly marijuana seems to grow bigger in cooler temps of 62 to 72 degrees, with 50/60% humidity. I don't know of any tropical area that has those temps..

Myth: pets should not be allowed in grow rooms, they carry mites and PM. I have been to many grow rooms that have pets in and out of the area, and they do not have PM or mite issues. Mites and PM come from clones or a badly dialed in grow room.

Myth: abusing the plant will increase resin production and potency. Properly growing marijuana, in a stress free environment makes the plant grow to its full potential. Pouring hot water over the roots or stabbing the main stem will not help anything.

Myth: marijuana loves full sunlight. Actually marijuana grows better with a semi transparent plastic over it, the plastic may be most useful at keeping the plant from getting soaked during rain, and keeping dust and dirt off of it, and cuts the wind down. Michigan fall is just notorious for too much rain (boytris, wet buds at harvest). Comparing plants that were exposed to direct sunlight or sheilded, the sheilded plant looked happier and less stressed.

Myth: California has better pot. Its about genetics, what is grown in california can be grown here. As the emerging MMMP grows, more genetics will come to michigan. The only thing cali has over michigan is they grow a lot outside. Michigan has seen potency range from 26% to 8%, with an average of 14% thc (per northern labs tech)

your leafy teen might be getting stressed because its root bound, transplant into bigger pot and fresh soil about a week before going into flower.

Great post!

Lots of good info in there.

Theory of extended darkness before flower is to speed up flower onset.

Extended dark period during flower does speed up flowering but decreases yield.

Stressing at end of flowering may cause male flowers. Useful if you want to make fem seeds.

Heat stress can make buds look bigger although they are fluffier. Keep in mind MM active ingredients are degraded by heat and light.

i have been doing a drowning with full dark for 48 to 72 hrs.

flood the buckets as much as possible, then cover the plants to keep then fully dark as i can for 2 or 3 days. then cut.

seems to be more flavor full, has imo, a bit better effect, and the flooding helps flush it and keep it smooth, atleast i think it does.

In my experience a 24-36 hour dark period before flower has helped me show buds about a week faster. I don't know about all the plant stress, abuse, etc. I never really bought into any of that but just like everything else, there are people who swear by it.

I think most of the things people try to accomplish (yield, resin production, THC content) with all these snake oil type ideas are pretty much going to be strain dependant. It's going to be hard to make something go against it's genetics by stabbing a hole in the stem with a nail. If you want a better yielder or something frostier it might just be easier to change strains than applying massive amounts of stress to the plant.

I do tend to believe a lot of people don't wait long enough to harvest though. Most put too much emphasis on trics and not enough on other indicators of maturity. It's almost always better to let them go a little longer IMO. Just my .02.
