David1946
I thought the GOP was the party of 'job creators, small government, and personal freedoms"?! You cannot police personal behavior but I guess the GOP figures they police every little aspect of our private lives. (And for our female community members your uterus isn't off limits to them either!) Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette: Michigan has 'enough casinos' http://www.mlive.com..._has_enoug.html Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette’s office says he’s waiting to see how the city of Lansing plans to move forward with a proposed casino project announced today by Mayor Virg Bernero.Schuette spokesman John Sellek says the AG has no knowledge of any legal way the city could open a casino, and therefore has “no viable case to make” allowing one. “Michigan has enough casinos and any expansion would outweigh the benefits.” he said, adding that casinos have seen increases in crime and addiction. Sellek says the political mood could make it hard for the city to get the plan approved. Last March, a federal judge shut down a casino operated by the Bay Mills tribe in Vanderbilt, near Traverse City. The ruling, brought by the Little Traverse Bay band that owns the Odawa Casino Resort in Petoskey, may work against the Lansing casino. In his ruling U.S. District Court Judge Paul Maloney wrote: Little Traverse Bay has established a factual and legal basis for this Court to issue a preliminary injunction against the continued operation of Bay Mills’ Vanderbilt Casino. For the purpose of this motion, the Court has jurisdiction over the lawsuit and Little Traverse Bay has established standing. "Little Traverse Bay has demonstrated a likelihood of success on the merits. MILCSA (Michigan Indian Land Claims Settlement Act) did not authorize Bay Mills to purchase land in Vanderbilt, Michigan. Such purchase is not a 'consolidation and enhancement of tribal landholdings.' Therefore, the Vanderbilt Casino is not on Indian land. Little Traverse Bay has established irreparable harm." The Lansing casino would be owned by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and built on land currently owned by the city. Lansing city officials say the new $245 million casino would create 2,200 jobs.

Anishfisher
It's for the safety of kids! it's the Sauk offensive! Next year B.S. will go after laundry mats and Dollar stores too because they're places where people congregate and we all know wherever people congregate marijuana is sold! Penny carnivals, Baptisms, bar mitzvahs and family gatherings will all be targets too as will movie theaters! Sure does feel that way doesnt it? solabeirtan
The reason "there are enough casinos in MI" he gives his first clue. Why does Detroit need any more competition ? Reason No. 2 Detroit is under State Financial Management so they can do as they please. Loot and plunder all that's been going on there since the Indians lost their original lease. Estimated Prophet
Let me guess...somebody in Bill's family tree of rich corporate executives owes a favor to somebody who has a financial stake in competing casino's? Or he could just be sticking it to Virg Bernero for even attempting to run against his Master, Rick Snyder. Call me a conspiracy theorist Edited January 24, 2012 by Estimated Prophet
