Spider Mite

Someone had stated cantaloupe is like mite crack to these little suckers, their theory was leave a little cantaloupe near the stalk and when you see it covered throw it away and repeat.

They also love clovers like what grows in our grass

Some guys are using a shop vac to sucks all the mites and webs then disposing of the contents in the vac and cleaning the vac.

Holy Moly!! I'm thinkin if its so bad that someone has to use a shop-vac, they should probably just start over. If there are webs, its an infestation! Im not pointing fingers. This is just my thoughts. Thanks, Medcnman.

lol just going off what I read.

Last year we decided heck we are gonna give our garden a boost and sprout our veggies in the veg room. I had never exp mites before but oh boy did they love tomato plants.

Needless to say, I had to rip everything down in both rooms and start over.

I bombed the house and rooms and cleaned everything, not a sign of them since.

Most of the time from what I read, if you have mites you are fighting a never ending battle. Start over is best

I got clones for my very first grow. Being an outdoor grower most of my life, spider mites were never something i worried about. Then I met them! By the time i knew what they were, it was too late. Within a week of seein the stippling on the leaves, I had webs. I tried Azamax and Neem oil but I couldnt beat them. I wound up scrapping the entire grow and bleaching my tents. I then coated my tents in azamax. Followed up with a coat of Neem oil. And then started a new grow. 7 weeks had passed since the beginning of the first run. I ordered High Times magazine and became a book worm! I now use Einstein Neem oil every two weeks and water Azamax in once a month. VEG ONLY!! once I take a clone from my mothers, it only gets nutrients. I havent seen a spider mite in my grow for more than 2 years and I plan on keeping it that way! Vigilance is the key. If im in someones grow and see signs of mites, I strip down in my garage before going in my house! My clothes go straight to the washing machine and I go straight to the shower! They are a bugger to get rid of and I take every precaution to not bring them into my grow. I hate spider mites!!! Medcnman.

I've seen plenty of posts where people talk about machine type trimmers beating meds up so I cant even imagine how a shopvac would hammer over delicate leaves and colas.

Mites can lay eggs by the thousands and have equal living numbers and that might not even be a massive infestation. IMHO, a shopvac is gonna maybe make you feel better like you sucked a few up and actually accomplished something but in reality you have done zero to prevent or really even slow down thier numbers. If you shopvac up a couple of the ones you can see and come back 24 hours later they will have already overcome that and multiplied beyond it since you did nothing to stunt thier reproductive cycle or actually damage the ones you left behind. If you run a perpetual garden you will eventually operate as if you always have a problem or pest and do regular garden maintanence. The worst thing you can do knowing you even might have a problem is wait till your eyes can see the problem. If you think you have a problem treat it before you can even see it, and make a regular maintanence program of it of course taking into consideration plants that are close to harvest so as to not have anything on your meds.

Either way, 'suction' never got rid of anyones mite problems. Its a 'feel good' solultion not a reality solution. Sorry, I apparently have to explain every reference and detail, I tried tact.

The reference to a trimmer was just that both will beat up your plants, but go ahead and stick a delicate cola up a dirty vacuum hose, dont let me stop ya and definitely dont complain when your mites numbers havent changed the following day.

LOOK here I never said I did do this or know of anyone that did!

But by all means spray your medicine with only gods knows what?

How would we know if the shop vac was bought for that sole purpose and clean?

How delicate are your cola's?

Ever heard of mj growing outside, I'm glad mother nature will stop her storm because your cola's are too delicate!!!

I don't have mites, maybe read through the posts before posting nonsense

Here is a remedy I just started with. Try doing this:...(HINT WEAR GLOVES )chop up about 10 habanero peppers,( Any really hot peppers will probably work.) and several cloves of garlic. To each quart of water use a tablespoon each of ground cinnamon, ground clove and 2 tablespoons of ground Italian seasoning. Heat the mixture until it starts to simmer, then turn off the heat. Add 2 tablespoons crushed fresh garlic when the water cools to warm. Let the tea sit until it cools. Strain and save the water using a cloth or coffee filter. Add a few drops of liquid soap or dish washing liquid to the water. It is ready to be sprayed on the leaf undersides. After spraying the mites off with water, spray it on the leaf undersides every three days after the wash. Within two weeks the mites will probably be gone. I call it "habanero hell". It's totally natural with no dangerous chemicals. It seems to kill them instantly and will probably make the leaves too hot to suck on. I just started this so will see how it goes.

I think 90% of mites come from other growers. A little late now but if you get a clone quarantine it in an area that is far from your grow room. A week without the nice lights will make it so the mights, if present, become very apparent. EVERY TIME I've taken a clone from someone else I've gotten a bug of some sort. Also strawberries get tore up by spider mights so if you look up "strawberries two spotted spider mite" and such up on scholar.google.com you can see scientific studies on how to get rid of them, organically. and +1 on the mighty wash.

Just be aware with spider mites in relation to being quarantined. If you have clones in a quarantine room and then you walk into that quarantine room and then go do work in your grow room, you've effectively carried mites into your grow anyway so just be aware. Mites will use you as a liason to get to other plants, they dont have to be in the same building or even near eachother, they love taking a ride on your clothes to get to where you dont want them.

I cant believe someone would scrap a grow because of mites. If it gets that bad, get some floramite. And a vapor sprayer, And spray everything.

It works period. Most importent thing is to never use the same thing on the mites to often, Or they will become amune to it.

I cant believe someone would use an ornamental miticide on cannabis. Its toxic at 214 degrees. Heres the MSDS sheet on it. http://www.cdms.net/ldat/mp5GE006.pdf

If youve used it on your cannabis, dont smoke it! Its safer to scrap a grow than kill a patient. Medcnman.

As long as you use it 24 days before harvest its safe. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. I'm not dead.

MSDS says it stays on the plant for 28 days. That would be in an out door application where rain has an opportunity to wash it off. Just because it says its for mites, doesnt mean its for cannabis. Azamax is organic. If you need to fight the mites, use Azamax or Mighty Wash. Not something for ornamentals. Unless you use a hose, you wont be able to wash it out of your buds. Once you spark that lighter or vape that bud, your inhaling toxic chemicals. We know asbestos causes cancer. Mesothelioma doesnt show up for 20-30 years. Scrap anything you have sprayed it on and start over. For your own health and safety. Medcnman.

I have not used it in over 6 months. Have not had a mite since then. I used it when my plants were in veg.

I used the azmax, But after awhile, It was like spraying water on them. Didnt do nothing.

How about avid? Is that something that should not be used? I also have some liquid ladybug. Thankfully I havent

had to worrie about mites lately.

Thanks for the info. I'm here to learn, And to help if i can. But i'm just a dumb farmboy.

I only use Azamax and Neem Oil. I water the Azamax in to my mother plants once a month and I use Einstein Neem Oil every 2-3 weeks as a foliar spray. When I take clones, they get a foliar spray of Neem a few days after they root. From then till harvest, they dont get anything but nutrients. I havent had a mite in over two years. Im glad your looking for information here. Its a good place to find it. There are many skilled growers on this site that are more than happy to offer advice. Just be cautious of what you spray on your plants. A dumb farmboy is one thing. A dead farmboy is something we like to avoid. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I have experience in hydro and soil. I keep no secrets. Medcnman.
