Treating Bipolar/ Manic Depression

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I found out that my grandma who is 84 is bipolar. Doctors want to give her some rx that one of the side effects is death, (No bs, this is the first thing doc said). She has seziers, alzheimers disease, which is dementia. We just talked to her doctor and he's going let us know when its okay to start to use, but he's not sure if he will sign off on it. There are times she can't eat, mood swings, doesn't sleep for 2-3 days and sometimes she sleep for 2 hours and wakes up everyone up. I have a big family, and using the scribed rx right now is out of the question.

My question is what strain would you recommend?

Thanks Estimate Prophet for the reply. Looking for something to give her through out the day, we have been going through alot of nurses family members, that can't deal with her. one minute shes nice the next flipping out. I have green crack i can give her at night but not sure what to give her through out the day, I was thinking of either og, headband or jack h.

Just looking to bounce some ideas of someone. If this was someone else other than my grandma I can test out different strains. With her Its really tough, esp. when i have 14 aunt and uncles breathing down my back, and that not including cousins.

What rxs are being suggested?

I think you can take two different approaches ie cannabis. You can get her into total couchlock mode or you can use a high cbd herb. I find the high cbd herb ( which doesn't get you high) might decrease her anxiety and increase concentration. I think most of the answers aside from the medible suggestion are done without knowledge. I know more about bp disorders than most here.

I really hate to say it but if she is suffering from alzheimers I suspect you cannot do too much more than sedate her. Ask her doctors how the illness ties in with their diagnosis. Do others who have alzheimers behave like that? If yes how did they get to the conclusion that it was bipolar disorder?

http://www.freedomisgreen.com/cbd-and-other-plant-cannabinoids-may-fight-alzheimers-disease/

New research in The Journal of Molecular Pharmacology demonstrates that Cannabis compounds may be a promising treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. It may seem counter-intuitive that compounds from the Cannabis plant may preserve memory, however Cannabidiol (CBD) and other compounds on the plant have neuroprotective effects. CBD appears to inhibit the cells directly involved with the progression of the disease.

So you would need a high cbd strain to even test this. There was also recent work in a drug that looks to be able to reverse Alz, but that won't be available for years even if they fast track it through the system.

Also whats with the doubling up on drugs lithium is a great drug if it works for you although you have to monitor the kidneys but it seems like the doctors are doubling up on the anti psychotics along with that. Make them explain how they know that any one of the suggested drugs is insufficent. Sometimes people get prescribed so many drugs that the dangers of side effects and disorientation go up substantially.

Best of luck its a hard row to hoe.

If. You are looking for complete couch lock, try and find some Lemon Cake. I've noticed that since 've harvest my LC my ciuch lock has went up and my depression has went down. It may be hard to find dried meds though. I have only seen them at the farmers market once and it wasnt near as good as what mine is but I grew it specifically for couch lock.

Also there was a vendor a few weeks ago that had a strain that tested out at over 13 CBD, and it sounds like that would be good for you.

And ..listen to MrD, his suggestions will help. He knows what he is talking about.

The three doctors all three have a different opinion on the alz. Those were the meds they wanted to give her, she would have to come in every two weeks for a blood test, the two doctors think with the lithium will help her, even though it bad for her liver. but her primary doctor was the one who said she is bipolar, because with the alz she won't know your name. But she does know who everyone is at times. I made some butter last night with white widow, and we will see what happens today. Thanks you guys.

A primary are doctor is not usually trained to evaluate bipolar disorder. Perhaps she needs to be evaluated by a psychiatrist who specializes in geriatric cases.

I can say this I had a dog of mine die that I had for 16.5 years she was my first dog away from my parents. Normally this would have almost killed me but it just happens that about 1 hour before she died I had vapped some of my new white widow. It made the whole death ordeal much easier to deal with. She died right at my lap, although I am man enough to say I still cried some it was much easier to deal with. So I think most good quality MM should help with mood swings and appetite. I know Sativa's are good for day but may elevate her mental awarness which makes me feel as though she could get confused with this and maybe kinda anger her. Just a thought from a newer user :)
