Medical Marijuana For A Minor.

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Patrick. I'm 14, soon to be 15. Everywhere I've tried asking questions and finding information, I've gotten laughed at. I've had migraines for at least a year or two,

and in the last 10 months they've gotten steadily worse. I've missed well over 20 days of school this year because of migraines. I've tried a range of medication, from over the counter(Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc.) to prescriptions such as Topamax, Naproxen, Tylenol 3, Propranolol, and more. None of them, both preventatives and instant relief type medications have actually given me relief. About 10 months ago I tried Marijuana recreationally, and I liked it. One night at a friends house I had a massive throbbing migraine, associated with the nausea and sensitivity to light as usual, and I was going to go home. My friend told me Marijuana helps migraines and I tried it again. The relief wasn't instant, but within 5 minutes I was relaxed, not pain free but alleviated from the nausea and everything, and a few minutes after that my migraine had almost completely gone away! Not only did it give me relief, but it broke the pain cycle, and I felt great the next day. Since then I've probably smoked close to a 100 times, and every time the relief is the same. I don't necessarily know if medical Marijuana would be right for me, but I know the law, and I know that my mother who's sick of seeing me in a terrible state would at least pursue looking into it If a doctor recommended it or told her about it.. I'm just not sure how she would react. I know most doctors wouldn't even consider recommending a 14 year old with chronic migraines to medical Marijuana, let alone 2 because I'm a minor.. And I want to avoid the destroyed liver and opiate pain killer addicted life I can see coming.. Thank you.

Hey little brother, you may not even want to approach your family physician so if you would provide your general location, I'm sure one of the members here could advise you of a cannabis friendly doctor in your immediate area that can certify you.

There's a 14 yr old in my town who is a patient and I hear the youngest in MI is 5 yrs old.

So get your medical records together, and welcome to the cannabis community. Best of luck to you Patrick.

Peace.

I've certified 3 children. Two 17 year olds with CP and a 12 year old with cancer. My rule is simple. Disease and suffering does not spare children. But given the climate, it needs to be significant disease and suffering and I'll sign right after the child's primary care doctor signs. My rules for what I do, not binding on anyone else, but I can defend my decision.

Patrick, I'm sorry to hear that it sounds like you're really suffering. If you haven't been evaluated by a headache clinic, I think it would be well worth your time. There are many aspects that need to be addressed, that would be beyond the advice you could get over the message boards. As a minor, you would need two physicians to certify you for medical marijuana. But better yet would be to identify an underlying cause that could resolve your migraines entirely! If you do get checked out and there's no improvement, then go ahead and pursue what's best for you. Anyway, here's a link to one of the best in the state:

Thank you. I have a neurologist appointment next Wednesday and I'm hoping to go to a headache clinic soon. Pursuing this wasn't my my only option, because there is a lot more things I should look into, and a lot more ground to be covered first. The effectiveness of it is why I was asking, thank you!

Best wishes. I hope the neurologist helps. In case you had any doubt, at least now you have your own personal testimonial about how medical marijuana can help.... albeit within the legal guidelines, as always.

Thats really the main reason why I posted this, to find out if my testimonial would help me, and how to bring it up to a doctor. Thank you. I'll be sure to say what's brought up at the appointment.

Have you tried any medables? Oils? I am guessing due to your age, Probably not..I have found out that eating the oils, candies n such. Work different then smoking..Smoking works faster then medables..medables last longer (the affects). When you get your card (or your papers are over 20days old) .Contact me..I can find someone in your area that maybe able to help you try some..There is a few Dr.s signing apps..with you being a patient..Your parents will have to be your caregiver..Have you discussed this with your parents?
