Is Rso Safe For Consumption?

Recommended Posts

I am having a problem with white powdery mildew and my question is simply this. Is it safe to consume RSO that is made with 99% iso if your starting material is infected with the pm? I don't want to destroy these plants if I don't have to, they are ready for harvest now and it would be nice to salvage it if I can.

Thanks for your help.

Please no name calling, I know that it probably isn't a good idea, but if you know for sure, it would be nice to hear from you.

Thanks guys, I have been reading your post for a long time and truly respect your opinions. Kevin, I liked your answer best, I'll be scraping and washing directly. I think that I will try the peroxide wash before scraping, that might help clean out a little more of the pesky pm.

When doing a solvent extraction you really have to be careful, no one for sure knows what chemicals the alcohol will leech out. There is a possibility it could kill all the PM off but also there is the possibility of the alcohol concentrating the PM which would be horrible. Just my 2 cents, I don't use anything for extraction I wouldn't roll up and smoke.

Wouldn't the charcoal filter out all of the cannabinoids as well?

No, it doesn't. The active ingredients are still there. One thing that I found to be a minus about filtering is that it makes the oil a little strong to use through my essential vape. It's like alcohol when you up the proof. You definitely need to adjust the dosage after filtering. I would rather have the less strong oil for vaping.

Hey Resto, how do you use the charcoal powder for filtering? Do you put the carbon in a paper coffee filter, or do you have a tube that holds the carbon or something like that? I have heard of using carbon lined air masks as filters. I've been doing a quick iso rinse and coffee filters, and making amber colored hash oil. Would I realize a benefit adding charcoal filtering? You mix the appropriate amount of the charcoal with your oil mixed with alcohol. The link above gives you the ratio. Then you filter out the charcoal with a filter. I have used coffee filters and they work. It takes a while if you just gravity feed it through the filter. Some use a vacuum assist type filtering set up to speed the filtering. Once you have all the charcoal filtered out, then you boil off the alcohol. The resultant is filtered oil. Watch out because it is stronger now. Make sure you adjust the dosage.

I don't usually filter mine because I don't see any benefits from doing that if the oil is not contaminated. To me, it makes the oil too strong to vape. When I make gel caps I don't see any benefit for that application either. It's just stronger so I have to put less in the gel cap.

I guess it would weigh slightly less with less volume so there is that. I was surprised how fast the hash oil adds up though. I thought an ounce of hash oil would be a huge amount, turns out less than 3 10ml syringes and your at one zip. So it's fairly heavy. At least oil is very stashable, not much smell and what not, I guess it lasts forever too. Funny the interest in oil when the markets dry up, eh? Shredder

Well. the definition of a gram is 1ml of water at sea level, so 1ml=1gram

Of course your right, but I guess I had to see it for that to sink in. I envisiond bottles of oil to weigh an once, lol........shredder

The plastic in that hand pump breaks quickly after being exposed to 99% iso.

Sooo .. you get a good gauge flask funnel filter papers .. but you gotta figure out a vacuum source. That one is good for about two loads.
