It seems the prohibition camp really is losing ground in the war on drugs, with New York Governor Cuomo the latest high-profile politician to issue his support for the decriminalization of possessing small amounts of cannabis. He said in a news conference today he wants possession of a small amount of pot (less than 26 grams) to be decriminalized in a bid to reduce the number of people arrested under the NYPD's "stop-and-frisk-policy." There were more than 50,000 arrests in New York state last year for possession of small amounts of cannabis (25 or fewer grams). "This is about creating fairness and consistency in our laws," Cuomo said. "The problem is the law, and the solution is to change the law."
