Anyone Else Ever Have To Deal W/ This?

So yeah, Like most of us here on the forum I suffer with a pretty high degree of pain and have next to no outlet to relieve that symptoms that cause the pain. So I started going to the gym to try and atleast get my body in shape seeing as its falling apart and changing colors in front my eyes..

Anywho I was kinda seeking some personal experinces from others on how they dealt with or what regime was taken to be able to continue working out, But not experince the extreme delayed pain that comes with it? I'm not sore ANYWHERE but my lower back where my pain exsist currently...

I have really had back problems for some time, surgery on my shoulders 5 yrs ago, Severed Long thoratic Nerve goes under the left shoulder blade witch causes extreme winging off my Blade, have issues with disks L-4,L5,L3 - S1.. hurniated and bulging.. I don't use heavy weights I know it keep it light with low reps and increase. I gained alot of stregh no doubt by what I have done thus far but just can't seem to shake the pain.. Not knowing if its helping or hurting.. But it feels so good when I'm doing it.. Thanks for listening

How'd you do it?

Good job with the excercise. My bod has been wasting away these past two years from incapacitating IBS and lower back problems. I've lost 30 pounds, much of it muscle. I wish I had what it takes to excercise on those days I'm feeling well. I would suggest getting a session with a good physical therapist. They could tell you how to excercise for maximum gain and minimal pain. Keep at it! :thumbsu:

Well firrst off I have ostieo authritis and ostieo parosis, followed up by neurophty in my legs.

2 surgeries on my right knee, it tends to swell up as big as a canilope at times. Lower back is shot and I am not in the mind set to have a doc work on it.

When the weather changes I feel it from my weaste down.

On the days when the weather is stable I go like my bass is on fire. Trying to get my to do list done. I do not let much deture me from getting things done at that time.

However when the weather takes a bad turn my body goes to heck in a hand basket and I am stuck in my chair. at which time I use medical marijuana, a strain I found to be good for my pain is Northern lights. Smooth taste without couch lock. At the age of 57 I am still a proud man, I hate asking for anyones help, so I try to do for myself as much as possible. My greatest blessing is my daughter, she comes over and helps me get household things done when I can not.

Yeah I have been dealing with back problems and pain for years and years.. I could probably be a physical therapist by now, lol

Their advice is play it safe, kinda stuff.. playing it safe and taking things light and slow and this and that has NEVER worked, only causes pain.. If I'm gonna be in pain when working out even during PT that I can't afford I might as well do it at my leisure, and still follow the basic guidlines setup from PT sessions, But I need to fix the problem FAST so I'm exploring everything possible so build muscle so that they dont cut me and remove 3 disks.. The surgeon said min.. 2 week stay in the hospital, 3 + blood tranfusions a day for up to 4 weeks(18k a shot), and bed rest for at least 6-8 months... Who can do that wtf, I don't even have a home or anyone to help take care of me for 6 months of bedrest.. This is my last option and I'm willing to try anything to avoid the knife and the unknown.. None of you guys workout at all or know a pain management specialist that is a trainer or something like that?

I'm in tears typing, its extremly painful and there is no help in sight.. I just need help, or I dunno how I will last another 3, 5 years let alone till it hit my 40's.. ouchieeee ouch ouchhh..

for me, stretching is key. i find the more limber i can keep my muscles and tendons, the less harsh pinching i get in my vertebrae, or atleast the easier i can get it to unlock and become freely mobile again...

I do need to work out to build muscle strength back... but i find if i dont stretch a few times a day, i ll be really kinked up by the end of a day or 2.

I am looking to start to meditate and perhaps yoga to further stretch and strengthen muscles.

I have tried it all Tim, acupuncture, Chriopractor.. chinese therapy.. chinese herbs, church, praying, streching is one of the most painful part's of the day, I can't bend my knees enough to sit in a chair, if I am in the sitting position and try to lift my legs outward pain shoots down to my feet and my lower back feel like a bonfire has been started in there, bending I can get about to the point of 25 degrees basicaly at no point can I bend a full half bend at the waist. It sucks I just don't have the answer, neither do the Dr's, Surgeons shake my hand and tell me good luck. cause of the high risk of paralsis from the blood disorder..

Not trying to be a baby and whine anymore, just in pain and need help and advice if there is any out there.. thank you for those that have replied..

Edit: Pain meds kinda help, MM kinda helps .. but yeah nothing really helps.. I just put on a happy face and die inside

I don't have a home of my own, lost that thanks to Warren PD... I couldn't possible fit my long body in that lil tub very possible I wouldn't have the ability to get out without assitance.. Im 30 it's embarrasing to say the least , in a house of 5-6 people at anyone one time either LOLOl...

Hot hot showers, been using some form of a topical oil with no relief.. just not sure if continuing to work out is doing more damage then good is what I'm wondering? yeah my arms are 2x's bigger my chest is swooled up but my lower back is on fire and disabling me for days at a time.

My heart goes out to you too. I can only hope and pray (literally) that you find relief. And you're so young!

My advice about working out, for what it's worth, is to keep it up unless you think you're actually causing damage. Hurting afterwards is a given, but strengthening your body can do nothing but good. I do know that strengthening your abs is good for the lower back.

Hang in there. I know it doesn't help the physical pain, but you have people here who care, even if we don't personally know one another.

thats about where im at Trix. Im basically looking at either a SS Rod down my entire spine, or mulitple fused verts areas.

I never get a moment without pain or numbness, unless im sleeping, and even then i wake up if i roll over and pinch a nerve doing it....

There aint no rest for the Wicked, and Money doesnt grow on trees, I got bills to pay and mouths to feed, so I just gotta keep going on my way.

Thank you guys for the kind words, if I didn't think people cared here on this forum, I would have left along time ago....

This is a place where I can actually related with people and understand what a variety of differrent people go thru on any given day..For me back when I joined up it was a eye opener.. and a relief. Thanks again and I feel your pain Tim, its something I wouldn't wish upon anyone even a known enemy.

I do think I'm gonna continue to workout, but I wish I could stay on a shedule that actualy was consistent enough to work in my favor, I HOPE that after a while the pain starts to go away once the mucsles learn that I'm trying to save their existence..

Trix you are so very young to be facing this!

I can no longer do it but Yoga is low impact and builds long lean muscles. I really felt well when I could do it and it did keep my muscle built up which did ease some pain. DDD is my worst enemy with exercise and I can not even think about lifting, sweeping, or doing any repetitive motion. I had a few discs replaced in my upper spine but I have several in my lower spine and like you I do not want to have them cut me open again. One exercise I found helps but at first can be painful is to sit on a chair or couch and put my leg/legs up on the coffee table and slowly and slightly bend forward. The back muscles in the thigh get so tight they make the pain much worse in my legs and by keeping them from tightening up has eased some of the pain.

You've probably tried this but the medibles and RSO is the first time that I actually had good pain relief. Just vaping or smoking never really even came close to giving me pain relief. Major difference. :) half asleep so my wording is not the best yet

Holy crap, that's what I was saying up there in the thread before.. that move you describe of sitting in a down position chair couch Dr. slab w/e.. Is the most painful part, my legs shake at the kness a 1/4 bent.. extended straight out possibly on a high steady dose of dilaudid that may work? :) .. the extension as you know is like hot knifes stabbing you with shooting pains from my lower back down my thighs numbing the feet sometimes until I put my legs back down.. or lay back down which seems to be a regular position often.. I really am bed ridden for the most part, thats why I started at the gym.. I am young, Dr's notes show a totally different story. I need to work out to solve the issue.. Thank you I will try the streching but I may have to find a safer way to do it.. cause that is tuff stuff right there.. lol

So sorry to hear about your ailments as well.. I have never tried a steady dose of RSO.. I have tried it once before, I loved it I slept like I had never slept before, and when I'm sleeping for the most part I'm pain free.. medibles I will eat all of whatever is there just cause I'm hungry Lol.. <~piggy , this is why the gym workouts lol

I feel for you, wow your not even 40 yet? your a youngster, I got disabled at 38 in 98! I went to all the pain clinics and P.T all over the detroit area, I had a back specialist in grosse pointe on jefferson, he is in a st.johns building, his name is dr. robertson! he dont take ins, well he will take auto ins, but no medical ins, most pay cash to see him, I cant afford it, but my auto ins has to pay for my back for the rest of my life, (or untill they feel like quiting again) he sent me to a physical therapy place on hayes and 19 mile? rite around that area, they have a machine that measures your back movement, and they have you do some weight lifting, I couldnt do the machine after 6 wks any longer, but I continued to go to them for the other benifits of the center, they give you triger point therapy, no shots, they push on muscles on your back and get rid of all of your knots and tight muscles, by pushing on them with little wooden prodders/ the push on the muscel/nerve till it releases, they can tell you what movement you can do and what you should not do!

The worst thing you could do now is hurt your back more, You realy should have a certified person helping you with your exercises/work outs! It will be best for you in the long run, I personaly lost around a 140 lbs to feel better a few yrs ago and Ive been able to keep it off, that alone has helped me majorly! Ive kept my weight between 170 and 180 for 5 yrs now, the older you get the harder it is to lose weight, I dont know if you have a weight problem or not, but getting off that access weight surely did help me! :nurse::phone::stuff:

Peace

Wow Jim that is great info.. Is that what they call "traction" where the table moves you up and down for a period of time?

I know this may sound all wimpy, This girl I been talking with tried to rub my back and I cried, its a all over thing.. I love the hot and cold thing they do at Theraphy, I have a electric blanket that I use all year round even in the summer.. swamp asss :)

That's what I was getting at when I started the thread was what can I do am I hurting myself more?, I wish I new a Dr. that was like a pain specialist that knew my conditions and had PT in their background, cause one wrong move can cause a internal bleed from the Hemophilia. It sounds like I need assistance cause your right If I do anymore damage its game over for me..

I went from a District Manager over 6 stores across michigan making a very decnet living to $12,000 on SSI and the worst insurance I have ever heard of.. Finding help when your disabled is well as you guys know not easy.. We get the Student Dr's not even real freaking doctors.. were like test subjects for wanna be hot shots in white coats borrowed from some other student that was late to work.

Thanks for weighing in on this it helps.. and no Im a healthy 190 lbs 6 ft, Started getting a lil muffin top so I had to work that off but other than that everything is good with my weight at the moment.. have been down to 150 and back up to 180 and hangs around there for the most part.. :gym:

Interesting, thanks Resto..

I was always under the impression streching BEFORE a workout was the correct way to do things, I spoke with a personal trainer at the gym, just about 20 minutes ago and have in the past when I joined the club, that you begin with a warm up walk/run 10 minutes w/e.. then your workout THEN after the workout I was told is the best time to strech....
