interesting read even though it won't happen and I am certainly not advocating it... notice u gotta have a white house account to even sign it... lol i also found our state also has a petition goin:

 

 

 

 

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

 

Peacefully grant the State of Michigan to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.

Do we not depend on the federal government for a lot of money? Would the money we saved by not sending it to the feds be enough to off set the federal cash cow that we now enjoy? Just curious.

 

What happens if our state is hit with a natural disaster such as a fire, tornado's, drought or flooding, would we have enough money to rebuild our neighborhoods, schools and towns with out the help of the federal government or would we just be sheet out of luck?

 

These are things we should consider before we decide we want to go it on our own. Our government is far from perfect, that is why we elect people to conduct the business of our country. We continue to follow this process until we get it right or our time on this planet is finished which ever comes first. That's just how I see it.

A state cannot secede legally speaking. We don't own the state of Michigan any more than people in Ohio own Michigan.

 

These petitions are nothing more than symbolic gestures made by people who don't like Obamacare. Not only that but they're a very tiny portion of the electorate. It's mostly a bunch of nonsense. If everyone who had a gripe with the feds signed a petition to secede then we would always have petitions circulating and initiated by those not in power at the moment.
