University of Massachusetts-Amherst Professor Lyle Craker has led a six-year struggle to gain a DEA license to grow research-grade cannabis so that studies can be conducted to determine the full extent of marijuana's medical value. Judge Bittner's ruling, which concluded that "Respondent's registration to cultivate marijuana would be in the public interest," came on the same day as a study released in Neurology on the positive effects of cannabis on neuropathic pain for people living with HIV/AIDS.
