Editor: State Attorney General Kathleen Kane says marijuana is a "gateway drug" ( "Kane against pot legalization," May 18 ). So why don't we have more than 100 million heroin addicts? More than 100 million cocaine addicts? More than 100 million meth addicts?

 

More than 100 million Americans have used marijuana at least once, according to the DEA.

I was thinking this same thing the other day. Guess now everyone should know that its just more BS lies.

the GATEWAY to harder drugs IS MARIJUANA. more specifically, once the lies upheld as truths by the government/media/pharma machine about the effects and dangers of marijuana are discovered, thru use, it makes wonder if it is ALL a lie. Coupled with the access to a variety of harder drugs black-market/cartel supply chains provide, and you've got an effective "GATEWAY".

 

 

the Drug Policy and attitude surrounding ALL drugs is a laughable joke. take the 3 mentioned in the OP. the BIG 3..Heroin, Cocaine and Meth

 

well, Meth is M-Amphetamine...a schedule II prescription drug....one fed to children. Adderall is 1/4 M-Amph..and actually it's 1/4 L-Amph which metabolizes into M-Amph....    Desoxyn-(rare, but still available)is another pharmaceutical thats 100% Methamphetamine

 

Cocaine, another schedule II prescription. still used in the USA. it is still the goto anesthetic used during eye surgery. packaged/sold by several HUGE drug companies around the world.

 

then we have heroin, a schedule I (same as marijuana).... diamorphine and portrayed as the evil, life long junky drug

 

but thrown in a beaker, prest0/chang0, and you get   dihydromorphinone (dilaudid),   oxymorphone (oxycontin)

 

even Fentanyl, a designer opiate, doses measured in nanograms, 1000's of times more powerful than heroin, is sched II and considered safe to prescribe.

 

my point is. ALL these drugs have their  own accepted uses and dangers. one is no worse or better than the other, and in my opinion, all garbage.

 

BUT, to portray meth as "the most dangerous drug in America" then prescribe it to kids.

 

saying 1 taste of heroin and you could hooked for life, but all these pills are OK, is criminal.

 

ALL the chemical drugs are the same. ALL are dangerous if misused/abused. Marijuana does NOT belong grouped with them and THAT lie is your gateway

A much more effective GateWay Drug is Alcohol! No doubt about it.

 

First it lowers your inhibitions, then your standards, then your judgement.

The problem with this claim is the leap in logic.  Even supposing that mj is a gateway drug that doesn't mean that every user would use a harder drug.  So 100 million users would not equate to 100 mil hard drug users.

 

If we want to approach this logically and honestly then we will accept that mj can be a gateway drug for some.  The question becomes whether that is a reason to disallow its use.  As someone pointed out alcohol is also a gateway drug.  So is nicotine.

 

The ultimate question becomes whether eliminating one or more gateway drugs will actually reduce the rate of new users of harder drugs.  Not likely.  Humans have always been on a search for altered states of consciousness.  Eliminating a rung on the ladder up the drug abuse mountain will do nothing more than either force some to skip the rung and take 2 steps up or force them to fill the void left by the gateway drug's absence.

If and I do mean IF.... Marijuana was a gateway drug. The gateway would be in the aquisition process. If it was readily available in a MJ setting ONLY...... Said gateway would be closed.     IF........
