In the wake of the NSA’s spying revelations, a golden opportunity has arisen for lesser known web services that offer guarantees against government snooping. Admittedly, a large number of web users will probably never leave the likes of Google and Microsoft simply because theydon’t care all that much about their privacy anyway, but there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that a good number of people are seeking out alternatives.

Take the case of DuckDuckGo for example, the private search engine that has just reported record breaking levels of traffic since the NSAgate scandal erupted. This week, it recorded 2.25 million direct searches – a massive 26% increase over the week before and the first time its ever broken the two million barrier. These stats alone tell us that there’s a large number of web users out there who are keen and eager to find ways of avoiding government snooping – something that also happens to be DuckDuckGo’s major selling point.

“We offer that in web search, and there are others that offer it in other verticals. As people find out about these alternatives, they make that choice,” explained DuckDuckGo founder & CEO Gabriel Weinberg via email.

Blaming the NSA thing on Obama just goes to show how uninformed you are.  This program was started by Bush and voted on by the Republican congress.  It was reauthorized by congress....more than once.  Maybe we should start blaming the people running the House and vetoing change in the Senate.

i agree it has been going on a long time we all know it but by voting them out won't change things it's here to stay now more and more people are saying they don't trust the Government any longer

The ISP that you are using is likely to be a problem. Haven't looked into DuckDuckGo so don't know much about them. All they have to do is tap into your down line at the ISP router and they will see everything that you do. I'm sure it is already being done.

Well I am not sure how much I agree with that. He signed the extension of the patriot act, NDAA, and asked for the power to detain Americans without due process. Oh but he promised he would never use that power.

They are then in that loop and find an obligation to keep those same secrets. Then tell that to all the people that blamed Bush for everything that happened all the way down to the 911 terrorist attack. You see the problem is when it was Bush in there everything was his fault and when Obama is in there NONE of it is his fault. In fact they say it is STILL Bushs fault.

Obama care and ALL the things that are and will go wrong with that for one. How about Bengazi for two. I could go on and on but I have more productive things to do with my time.

Personally, I, like many other people, believe The Affordable Care Act is an improvement.  In any case, it hasn't been fully implemented yet, so we don't know if it's a failure.  You can't blame someone for something that went wrong before it goes wrong when you don't know whether it will go wrong or not.  I know of at least three people within my social circle that have already been helped by the ACA.  I have still to meet someone that has actually been hurt directly by it.

 

Benghazi is up for debate.  What exactly did Obama do wrong pertaining to Benghazi?  It was the congress that voted to cut spending for embassy security just months before.  I'm not sure there was anything Obama could have dome to prevent what happened there.

 

I'm so tired of people mentioning "ALL" the "many many many other things" that Obama did wrong, but then they can't tell you what any of them actually are.  There is a difference between opinion and fact.

 

At least I can list something that Obama actually did that was wrong, the drone program.
