Thanks! It was about 12 years ago.  My lifestyle has completely changed since then.  I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis around the same time, so I had to make drastic changes.  The UP is awesome.  I moved here from another state (I'm originally from California but made it here by spending time in several other states, mostly Illinois.) about 8 years ago and would never move back to the city.  Difference in latitudes, difference in attitudes. 

 

It's incredibly cheap to live here too.  You can rent a three bedroom house for around $450-500.  I just bought my house last week for 31k, no money down.

Congratulations on the house.

Living in town is a good idea, as it's already so remote there it's nice to have a few services and to be around some small-town folks. I've been hopeful to hear about Marquette General Hospital becoming a quality care facility now that Duke Medical had become involved, but I haven't heard any real details yet.
