State and federal authorities seized 525 marijuana plants being grown at an unspecified Macomb Township residence, law enforcement officials said.

According to a news release distributed by the Michigan State Police, the home was raided by police on Thursday. Officers discovered the plants growing in an area that was outdoors, but enclosed. Authorities said the home’s occupant said he was growing marijuana as a hobby. Police did not specify the location of the home.

A second search at a business in Detroit, also unspecified, resulted in the seizure of documents that suggested the suspect has produced marijuana since 2008. Three bank accounts also were seized.

The raid was conducted by the multi-jurisdictional County of Macomb Enforcement Team in conjunction with U.S. Customs agents.
