100,000 Bond For Ontario Man Accused Of Donning Scuba Gear To Smuggle Marijuana To Michigan

MARINE CITY, Michigan — A Michigan judge has set a $100,000 bond for a Canadian scuba diver who was arrested after border patrol agents found 8 pounds of marijuana in a water-tight container tied to a seawall on the Michigan side of the St. Clair River.

The PVC cylinder was found near Marine City, northeast of Detroit.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman says agents arrested the man in his scuba gear about 1 a.m. Monday after remote camera operators at Selfridge Air National Guard base spotted him.

The St. Clair County sheriff's department says 24-year-old Jesse Zunti of Windsor, Ontario, was arraigned Wednesday in Marine City District Court on marijuana delivery charges. His preliminary examination is scheduled Sept. 4. The court says Zunti didn't have a lawyer of record Wednesday afternoon.

And the "remote cameras" would be where? Selfridge does not border Marine City so it would not be cameras that are protecting the base. Do they operate drones that patrol the border? Just wondering. Might be time to give those folks with the aluminum foil hats more creed.

Drones with infrared/heat seeking sensors. I suppose a frogman swimming into shore at 1:00 AM might be a little suspicious. Other than that, it sounds like a great plan for smuggling some reefer.

Homeland security got a grant a few years back to place cameras up and down the border along the waterways between Michigan and Canada.
