FLINT, MI – The Flint City Council plans to discuss the city’s medical marijuana ordinance during tonight’s meeting.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 23, at Flint City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St.

Although city officials said an agenda isn’t available until 5 p.m., Fifth Ward Councilman Sheldon Neeley confirmed that the ordinance will be discussed.

The city's current law says medical marijuana dispensaries have to be at least 500 feet away from any church, park or school. Changes could push dispensaries 1,000 feet away.

No one spoke during a public hearing on the issue in June.

Council President Scott Kincaid previously said at that June meeting that a change in law has to come from the emergency manager and that city council just conducts the public hearings.

There are currently nine medical marijuana dispensaries throughout the city, according to city records from June. They include:

  • Michigan Compassion Care Center, 434 W. Water St.
  • The Green Bean 1625 W. Atherton Road
  • Michigan Safe-Transfer, 3401 Corunna Road
  • P2PMeds, 1011 S. Ballenger Highway
  • Meme’s Green Dream, 3600 S. Dort Highway, Suite 60
  • UGS Corp., 3316 S. Dort Highway
  • We Grow Education and Collective, 2849 Miller Road
  • Michigan Grow, LLC, 3553 S. Dort Highway
  • MI Organic Solutions, 3549 S. Dort Highway, Suite 106

The city issued a moratorium on approving new dispensaries as Michigan’s medical marijuana law is challenged in court.

Neeley also said his proposal to restrict pit bull dogs in Flint won't be discussed at the meeting.

He is proposing everyone who has a pit bull to register and if the dog attacked someone they could face a misdemeanor charge of criminal negligence.
