bobandtorey
PAW PAW, MI -- A Paw Paw Middle School teacher with a license to growmedical marijuana is now facing felony drug charges because authorities say his crop was too large and he also manufactured hashish. Two members of Michigan State Police's Southwest Enforcement Team raided Scot Granke's Arlington Township property on Aug. 21 after receiving a tip from Granke's estranged wife, Marlene, according to testimony at a Oct. 14 probable cause hearing seeking a warrant for Granke's arrest.Trooper Evan Hauger and Lt. Tim Blanksford found 66 plants, 18 more than Granke's license allowed, and a pound of possessed marijuana, when the maximum Granke is allowed is 15 ounces, Lt. Kevin Wiley testified. They also found hash, which is not allowed under the medical marijuana law, and four unregistered handguns, Wiley told Magistrate James Becker of the South Haven District Court. Wiley described it as a "very large, complex marijuana and hash manufacturing operation." "He admitted that manufactured marijuana and was very specific about who he supplied marijuana to, and he only supplied it to patients," Wiley testified, but added, "he is over the limit" of what his license allows." "Granke admitted that he manufactures hash in the form of butter, claiming that it is easier for some people to take," Wiley said. "There is no way the hash would be allowed under the Medical Marijuana Act."Becker authorized one count of manufacturing marijuana and one count of manufacturing hash, both felonies, plus four misdemeanor counts of possessing an unlicensed handgun. Each felony count carries a potential sentence of seven years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. Attempts to reach Granke and his attorney were unsuccessful. Granke has a preliminary examination scheduled for Nov. 12 in South Haven District Court. Granke, 50, has been on paid leave since August, said Diana Davis, Paw Paw interim superintendent. Granke has three children, ages 19, 17 and 6, according to his school website. Scot and Marlene Granke have a divorce pending in Van Buren Circuit Court. GregS
Ain't hash dried leaves and flowers? There is always some leaf and flower particulate in the mix. Is it a mixture or preparation thereof? Edited October 30, 2013 by GregS

garyfisher
Depends how the hash is made whether it is legal or not. If it was sifted through a screen and pressed, possibly. If he used a solvent to extract oil, no. Sucks for the teacher. Trooper Evan Hauger and Lt. Tim Blanksford found 66 plants, 18 more than Granke's license allowed, and a pound of possessed marijuana, when the maximum Granke is allowed is 15 ounces, Lt. bobandtorey
On Thursday, Newschannel 3 broke the news that Scot Granke was charged with multiple crimes related to an illegal marijuana grow operation found at his home on County Road 215 near Bangor. Granke is now charged with two felonies for manufacturing marijuana, and four weapons charges. The Paw Paw School District confirms that Granke, a middle school special education teacher, has been on leave since the beginning of the school year. Court documents obtained by Newschannel 3 are spelling out how it all happened. The teacher says the marijuana grow was all for medical patients, but we now know it wasn't legal. It was Scot Granke's ex-wife Marlene that tipped off investigators to a marijuana grow in the pole barn outside the couple's Arlington Township home. Dispatch confirmed she's contacted 9-1-1 several times in the last few months, with complaints linked to her ex-husband. Court records confirm the Southwest Michigan Enforcement Team raided the home with her permission the third week of August, taking 4 unregistered handguns from the home, and later more than 30 pistols and long guns from the garage. Newschannel 3 has learned that search also turned up a large number of marijuana plants. Investigators called the grow "large" and "complex," and add that they later discovered a hash manufacturing operation and one pound of processed marijuana. Police interviews reveal Granke told them two days later the drugs were for his patients, and he was licensed to grow marijuana medically. He claimed the hash—which is illegal under the medical marijuana act—was “easier for patients to take.” “A caregiver can grow up to 12 plants, plants defined as anything with a root,” explained Annette Crocker, a Registered Nurse with Michigan Holistic Health. “So cloves, seedlings, flowers, anything with the root counts as a plant. And they can have up to 2.5 ounces to any patient they care for, and they can have up to 5 patients.” Court records reveal Granke was licensed for three patients, allowing him to grow up to 36 plants, and that he is an expired patient. SWET recovered nearly double that—66 plants. We reached out to Granke on Tuesday, who told Newschannel 3 he needed to speak to his lawyer before speaking on camera. He's due back in court for a preliminary hearing in November. The school district says Granke will remain on leave until a judge has made a decision on the case.Read More at: http://wwmt.com/news/features/featured/stories/court-documents-reveal-more-details-teachers-pot-bust-3295.shtml#.UnGUghZUFFQ

TheHarvester
Hard to imagine what in the world happened between him and the wife. That's a level of hatred off the charts. I feel bad for the patients whose care no doubt was compromised because of this.
t-pain
its a good time to remind people. if you have estranged roommates or friends or lovers/wives/girlfriends. or you are in court over some property, divorce, child custody, etc make sure you are WELL within your limits. try not to keep 30 guns at your grow location. i know you can try to rely on a section8 defense in court, but its much easier to avoid all that hassle and ensure sec4 protection. maybe its not a good idea for you to be a caregiver for multiple patients while you are in the middle of a divorce and taking care of 3 kids. it seems like a lot of different stresses to be handling at one time. i'm not blaming the victim. but i am learning from the details of his case. i point this out , not to blame the victim, but to encourage readers to learn and avoid these kinds of troubles.
