bobandtorey Posted October 31, 2013 Report Share Posted October 31, 2013 MONROE (WXYZ) - Lt. Luke Davis didn’t have to see the inside of a prison cell for very long. After serving only 4 months behind bars, he was moved to a boot camp earlier this month, scheduled to be paroled on the day after Christmas. The early present means Davis served only a fraction of his 2-20 year sentence that came down in august. As the 7 Action News Investigators first reported, Davis was charged along with another police officer and a civilian with stealing or selling property seized in drug raids through narcotics investigations in Monroe. He was suspended with pay in 2010 after the 7 Action News Investigators first reported on the case, and earlier this year he pleaded no contest to a count of running a criminal enterprise. Davis is allowed to leave prison early because he qualified for a special program, allowing him to enter boot camp October 18 and to be paroled by December 26. His sentencing judge signed off on the program, which will also require community service and for Davis to wear a tether. Michigan State Police expressed outrage over the early release, saying Davis should spend decades behind bars. How can any reasonable person think that this guys actions are OK but Duval's actions are criminal? I guess that is the whole argument in a nutshell. The rich will never allow us to vote their wealth and power away, but we are allowed to remove mistakenly elected liars from office, yet we rarely do. The Kwami's, Obama, and more are routinely twice elected by the majority. Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present, controls the past, in a doublespeak sorta way. Peace Republicans are the traditional "Law and Order" types. They are the ones who have built up the prison system for the past twenty years and then privatized it. Their answer to crime is to lock people up and throw away the key. They are the ones who want the police to be a paramilitary organization that has allegiance to the wealthy. Republicans are the "Right Wing". Ever hear about the Right Wing Military Juntas that ruled some South American and East Asian countries for years? This is the mold that Republicans would like to use for the US. Democrats traditionally want the police and the criminal justice system to be more lenient, preferring treatment over incarceration. Just because the police are unionized does not make them Democrats. The police are controlled by the political party that is in power. Politicians make the laws that the police enforce and also determine how those laws will be enforced and the limits placed on the police. Republicans have been in power in Michigan long enough that people have forgotten what it is like to have a police force that is answerable to the people, not the monied class. The rich will fight tooth and nail to prevent us from taking their power away, but that doesn't mean we can't do it. They quake in their boots when they think about just how easy it would be for us to transfer some of their wealth and power to ourselves. All we have to do is to elect someone who is willing to change the laws in favor of the 99%. It also helps to have the courts stacked with judges who agree with this philosophy. But... people are stupid and are more than willing to lap up the drivel fed to them by the upper class - ala Fox News and the Religious Right. I seriously doubt that the idiots who vote Republican will ever wake up to the fact that they are voting against their own best interest.
