Three Michigan Cities Legalize Small Amounts Of Mj

Recommended Posts

wonders if the local laws trump state laws. the officials there said no on television this morning, regardless of the token vote.

Small steps... one at a time I guess.

Same old same old... the state and the feds can step on it if they choose to... I just wonder if they'll have the money and staff to do it?

We'll see.

Thats what the news said on TV and Leo said the same i used to live in  the city of Ferndale they also  have a Medical Marihuana Law on the books before the one we have now

But when Leo and the TV says it won't matter how the people did vote and that makes us think our vote doesn't even count

These LEO need to respect the peoples vote and quit harassing people using a natural medicine and go fight some real crime... Now we just need to get the rest of the state and country legalized...

I agree but how do we make them do that and with the Law we have today it still matters on what county you live in as to how the Leo and court will treat someone

And it's a State Law not by county by county Law

LANSING — Lansing voters overwhelmingly passed a proposal Tuesday to give protection to users of small amounts of marijuana.

With all precincts reporting, the proposal passed easily with 62 percent of voters approving the measure, according to unofficial election results.

Also passing similar measures Tuesday were Ferndale and Jackson.

“That’s a pretty substantial landslide. It’s a great victory,” said Jeffrey Hank, chairman of Coalition for a Safer Lansing, which pushed for the proposal. “The message is sent loud and clear. It’s mind boggling if (state) lawmakers don’t take this up and legalize marijuana in Michigan.”

Lansing’s proposal amends the city charter to prohibit the city from regulating the "use, possession or transfer of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, on private property, by a person who has attained the age of 21 years."

But even the passage of the proposal would not offer complete protection from prosecution. State law still bars marijuana use and possession unless it’s medical marijuana and federal law offers no accommodation.

Mayor Virg Bernero supported the proposal, noting Ann Arbor, Detroit, Flint and Grand Rapids already have passed decriminalization measures.

But the ballot measure drew opposition from the Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, whose staff argued Lansing's proposal contradicts state and federal drug laws.

Hank said he is not worried about state enforcement of marijuana laws in Lansing.

“(Schuette’s) stance is the minority and is largely discredited,” Hank said. “Totally diverse populations of the cities of Michigan said they want these laws to change. I hope this sparks a dialogue.”

I just have to laugh anymore when I read about how law enforcement decides to ignore laws passed by initiative. I mean, how much more democratic can a citizen initiative be? Their refusal to accept and respect the will of the citizens smacks of communist dictatorship to me.

The communist/socialist hating Republicans couldn't be behind this, could they?
