Tonight- The Michigan House Judiciary Committee heard testimony today on medical marijuana bills HB4271, HB5104, and SB 660 in preparation for a second hearing in which the bills are expected to be voted on Tuesday Dec 10. SB 660 would allow large commercial cannabis gardens which would be used as supply to be distributed through pharmacies. HB 4271 a The Provisioning Centers Act would allow local governments to accept or reject testing labs and distribution centers which would be supplied by the existing caregiver system, and HB5104 would allow for concentrated and edible forms of medical cannabis. HB5104 was introduced by Rep Kowall in response to a court ruling in People v Carruthers that determined that only the leaf and flower are protected forms of medicine under the Act.

 

Attorney John Targowski of The Law Office of John Targowski who testified at the committee hearing will join us along with Robin Schneider Legislative Chairwoman for The National Patients Rights Association and Jim Powers from The Pediatric Cannabis Therapy group, who also offered testimony. Most of the PGT crew was in attendance as well. Representative Jeff Irwin from Ann Arbor and member of the Judiciary Committee will call in tonight schedule permitting.
