IRON RIVER - An Iron River man was arrested for a fishing violation, with warrants being sought for illegally killing a deer and an illegal marijuana

grow operation after a routine fishing patrol stop by a Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officer.

The name of the man was not released by DNR officials. The arrest occurred Sunday.

DNR conservation officer Dave Painter was patrolling Ice Lake near Iron River. He contacted a group of anglers fishing the lake. Painter saw too

many lines were being used by the anglers.

In talking with members of the group about the violations, he discovered one of the subjects had allegedly shot an antlerless deer without a license

during the muzzleloader season in December.

Painter was talking with the alleged suspect and allegedly discovered illegal drug activity and paraphernalia in his ice shanty. The DNR said Painter

seized the items.

Painter went to the man's house in Iron River to retrieve the deer that was allegedly shot without a license. In the process of recovering the meat

and carcass, Painter found an alleged marijuana growing operation. He seized 33 plants.

The man was arrested on the fishing violation. Warrants were being sought from the Iron County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for the deer and

marijuana violations.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Iron Mountain post and the Iron River Police Department assisted Painter.
