If you take a prepared 6 inch rock wool cube and start your plant in that by hand watering with it on a saucer you can get a really fast start in growth. This has also been called hydro for dummies. You do this until roots show at the bottom of the cube. This results in a 6x6 surface area of roots. This is then placed on top of a full air pot of whatever soil you use. Continue to water the cube and the surrounding area of soil. You get real nice start and the plants tend to be bountiful probably due to the larger root area.
