Man Trains Bees To Make Honey From Marijuana

Many are calling him a genius. The man is an artisan, locksmith and above all else, he explains, he is a beekeeper.

He has over 4300 Facebook followers and 700 on Instagram after the 39-year-old Frenchman, who describes himself as an advocate of medical cannabis and of complete marijuana legalization, trained bees to make honey from marijuana.

He goes by the nickname of Nicolas Trainerbees, for obvious reasons.

For 20 years, he has worked with bees in a way where he claims he is able to “train” them to make honey from virtually anything.

“I have trained bees to do several things, such as collect sugar from fruits, instead of using flowers,” he explains.

Nicholas says he has “been passionate about nature since childhood,” which led him to this profession that mixes his love for plant life with his love for animals – especially insects.

Nicholas calls the marijuana-honey produced by the bees “cannahoney” from “a training technique whereby the bees collect the resin and use it in the beehive”.

The final substance, he explains, is the sole work of the bees.

“For some time I had known about the health benefits of bee products such as honey, propolis, pollen, wax and royal jelly and also about the benefits of cannabis”, and so he decided to take notice of the requests,” he explains.

Add to that the fact that “everything that passes through the body of a bee is improved”, he said, since their enzymes make the nectar turn into honey.

“So if the bee took the resin from cannabis it would also be very beneficial”. “The aim arose for me to get the bees to obtain this resin”, he added.

The “cannahoney” has “quite a floral” aroma and a color, he explains. It “is not smoked, it is ingested and it is good for health”, he adds.

Nicolas says that “the bees accept any strain”.

So do the bees get high off of the marijuana they make the honey from?

“The bees that produce the cannahoney are not affected by cannabinoids because they do not have an endocannabinoid system”, he says. It’s just another form of food for them.

yeah... bees eat nectar from nectaries. cannabis plants have no nectaries.

What you say may be true, but read this write up (link below), it is quite interesting. I am sure honeybees will go to marijuana simply for the pollen, and keep returning. However, they will also require a plant that produces nectar. But you could be right, the guy could be full of it, that wouldn't surprise me either.

the kid(not anymore) who cultivates our honey, pounds per year, has a dozen or so different colonies that feed from specific assigned flower beds. Of course they cant be controlled. The bees produce is labeled accordingly and there is a difference between all of them. they all are awesome though. real honey is the whip!

And then there are the folks that are skeptics, think, and then look a little harder and find he's just another liar for money.

A real medical cannabis advocate doesn't lie to the masses for money.

i used to have multiplel hives, an personally knew some producers that had 1000's of hives (they taught me ), bees go to were the pollen is, each species of plant has its own specific time that it produces pollen, and nectar. Even pine trees. I have had them go to mj and take pollen, there is likely not many plants in the world a bee doesn't touch. But I don't think he could train them to eat JUST marijuana.. although he could push them to eat it directly there are other pollen's that also are taken. making the honey a varietal.  But this is how all different varieties of honey are created. Time of the target flower/grain.

He could coax them to use cannabis, but they don't prefer any particular flower, or pollen. JMHO

I remember  the great rainbow honey mystery. the honey  kept changing.  First green, then blue and yellow next.  Come to find out the bees were eating m&m's from a manufacturing plant, as they threw out end of line colors.

Well I apologize if this fake, didn't mean to mislead anyone.

Just thought it was cool, guess I'm just ignorant of how bees make honey.

If it is real, it would be cool though!

Willy is the 'bee' guy and he said it is possible.

I read this article and thought hey... that is the shizit if true.

Thanks for posting it.

No male flowers. No pollen. Just some honey bee attractant put on some female cannabis buds.

@imi I said they would go to it, male or female plants, in there search for pollen, and they will take pollen if its available, but like it was said, there is little pollen even in male plants. Bees do touch almost all plants, but they can't eat mj exclusively as there isn't enough nutritional sustenance for them...

Resto is pretty close with his idea. However here is a small part taken from one of the articles i posted.

Furthermore, bees were observed feeding on male flowers only during mornings and evenings, and were absent at other times. This is due to the fact that anther dehiscence—the process whereby the male reproductive organs split to release pollen—occurs during these times. Thus, bees are attracted to cannabis plants, but only to males, (only during floral dearth periods), and only during periods of peak pollen production.
