“Just imagine if [addicts] had access to cannabis and were able to kick their habits, how our state would change for the better,” she said. “Crime would go down, health care costs would diminish, overdose deaths would fall, and it would help our economy to flourish. Without the familial crisis of opiate dependence, New Mexico’s children would also be safer, families would be more stable.”

Health Secretary Lynn Gallagher rejected the board’s Nov. 4 recommendation, citing a lack of scientific research to support the argument that cannabis can offer relief from the pain and suffering of people struggling with opiate addiction.

“While I share the Advisory Board’s concern about opioid use and its costs, I cannot say with confidence that the use of cannabis for treatment of opioid dependence and its symptoms would be either safe or effective,” Gallagher wrote in her response, issued Wednesday.

As we cure opioid addiction one medical cannabis patient at a time.

I had another success story; Substitute a small dose of cannabis oil daily and after a few months they forget all about the pills. Eventually they don't need the chronic dose of oil and they can medicate as needed, the way it should be. The best part about this is the patient has control over themselves and they don't feel like the drug controls them. They are in charge and empowered by that. It can be a character building experience. Leading to a more rewarding life ahead.

The five active members of the board, all doctors, unanimously voted for approval of the condition, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.
