boatbum850
Straight up I'm old & don't know much about how to choose what to start with . Small tent indoors to start , Humidity will probably be my biggest problem so mold & bug resistant , easier to grow & no super stinky . Cost is also a consideration to a point . Already have pretty much everything except beans . Stuff I've liked : LA Confidental , Blueberry . Monster Cookies , Mountain Temple , GSC , NY Diesel were OK daytime smokes but I wouldn't go out my way for them . Of course the Colombian & Panama Red , SE Asian sativas from my younger days . Don't really know much about all this new stuff . Years ago was this bright green stuff had a sweet piney taste to it I liked . I'd like to study up on this learn what to avoid etc . Can anyone suggest any sources of info etc. Things like is it prone to mold , is it prone to hermie , is it a light or heavy feeder , is it a hog for certain nutrients . I'm sure everyone trips out & makes it more complicated starting out , right now that'd be me aka " Rookie Tent Grower To Be " . OK , take Grandpa to school .

If you liked LA Confidential it's easy to grow. Not my top shelf however I'm a pot snob. A lot to be said about something that's easy to grow when you are starting out. Hit a home run right off the bat. boatbum850

glued gorilla
If you want old school sativa types, check out Ace seeds. Bodhi is also great, plenty of old and new flavors in the line up.

blackhorse
Just remember that you are 5 months from harvest when you pop the seeds. Ask some friends for clones and experiment with different strains. The best strains that I have came from friends, Each person has different likes in the strains. boatbum850 and glued gorilla

Bingo bango you already have a plant that's growing. But wait, there are risks to this short cut? Yup, one clone from a friendly individual and you ruin your grow room with mites. With seeds you avoid the biggest failure out there, a failed crop after you have nurtured your plants all the way up to budding, to have victory stolen from you because of a short cut. boatbum850
Restorium2
Give a person a fish and they will eat once. Teach a person to fish and they will never starve. And so it is with seeds.
blackhorse
Any time I bring in a clone, I quarantine for 2 weeks at minimum. If friend has smoke that you like, then ask for a clone. This way you will know that you like the strain. I have grew out strains from seed and got rid of after first grow. The best strains that I have came from friends. glued gorilla, Wild Bill and boatbum850

The best strains that I have came from friends. I hear that. I found it more than a coincidence that the person here asked about growing a strain and actually liked one of the few I started out with where I could give them the whole plan without any guess work and the least amount of variables that might cause failure. In other words, a sure thing to meet the requirements that were set out here. blackhorse
boatbum850
Restorium2 thanks for the link . You're right just go for it . First need to see if I can get something to harvest . Don't have room & more important knowledge to deal with clones at this time . I'm sure in time & with experience I'll find my place . Space & funds might dictate as to what I choose but it's got to beat the high priced & limited dispensary wares . Is there a kind of reference book , website etc. where one can learn what each strains characteristics ? Was thinking it would help me pick what I want . Some strains are a royal PITA & I just want easy going with acceptible results . Edited December 6, 2020 by boatbum850
jasonj121
I think that there is no particular rules about which strain to start growing with. Everyone chooses what he or she likes and starts growing the strain. My first strain was Gorilla Cake https://askgrowers.com/strains/gorilla-cake-strain-review and it became my favorite one. If you want to learn about the best strain you can grow in the conditions you have, it will be better to read about each strain you are itnerested in and talk to the experienced growers.
