Outdoor Grow Miracle

Had something happen that I haven't ever seen before in my 32 years of outdoor growing.

I had huge plants last year in my outdoor garden. 15 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter. They were so nice.

I lopped them off leaving all the roots in the ground.

Now I have new plants coming up from the roots!

At first I couldn't believe my eyes.

Then I thought they had to come from seeds.

Then I realized they look like clones, not seedlings.

Anyone ever seen this?

I'll add a picture shortly.

Help me figure this out.

Must be. Not sure. My parsley survived too. And my cilantro.

Doesn't look like what comes up from a seed. The plant it is growing up from never produces any seeds at all.

I dug down around it and the main roots just keeps going underground.

My guess is seed. I've had plants that produced seeds outside from natural pollinationby insects.

Right. 

I haven't seen more than a couple seeds in all the buds in the whole garden though.

I have over a dozen small plants and none of them are tiny or have the cotyledon(round) leaves.

They all look like clones.

I found that people have cloned from roots. So it is possible these are clones from roots in the ground.

Game over. I decided that there wasn't any good reason to save them.

What kind of wire is around your o/s garden?

Thinking of using 2 x 4 welded wire, 12.5 ga.

Any suggestions?

Chain link. Three foot of chicken wire at the bottom to keep the rabbits out.

That is chicken wire over the chain link?

I've been looking for chain link, but no luck so far.

Yup, over the chain link. The darned rabbits go right through the chain link!

Menards has chain link fence 11% off.

You have covering in case weather turns bad?

I'm near Saginaw Bay so there's not much chance of hard frost/freeze here.

If things got really bad I would use a salamander like the fruit tree farmers do. 

Knock on wood, haven't ever lost a single plant to frost.

Just started hardening off, will stay in small pots taken in and out for 2 weeks, then put out. Usually, about may 25 is my date.

Weather channel . com is your friend. Look at your 10 day forecast. If the lows are out of the 30's then you are safe.

Before the stretch. 6 foot stockade fence in front with black chain link on the other 3 sides.
