Man busted for selling pot in grocery store parking lot

Mike Martindale / The Detroit News

Pontiac -- A 29-year-old man is jailed and expected to face charges for an enterprising but illegal activity -- selling bags of marijuana out of his van in a grocery store parking lot.

Sgt. Kevin Braddock said police were sent to the Joslyn Market on Joslyn road about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a man selling drugs out of a green minivan in the parking lot.

The suspect, who was parked in front of the store, began to drive off when police arrived. When he was pulled over, officers said he had visible marijuana residue on his jacket and there was a strong odor of unburned marijuana from the interior of the van.

Police seized a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun from the man's waistband and the van search uncovered 22 1-pound bags of marijuana and several other bags of marijuana, totaling 26 pounds. A search warrant was obtained for his house, where police found another five pounds of marijuana for a total of 31 pounds.

Braddock said the marijuana was a "particularly potent" form of marijuana called "hydro" that sells for $6,400 to $6,500 a pound on the street and the total seizure had a combined street value of about $224,000.
