Holland, MI —

The Ottawa County Planning Commission is hosting a training to help local governments with medical marijuana issues.

The training is 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Allendale Township Hall, 6676 Lake Michigan Drive. It’s free and open to the public.

In 2008, Michigan voters approved a statewide ballot initiative to permit the medical use of marijuana. This training will assist local governments in understanding the Medical Marijuana Act and also issues the act doesn’t address.

Some issues not addressed by the act are zoning for dispensaries and marijuana businesses, and approaches that can be utilized by local government to regulate medical marijuana.

Scholten Fant attorneys Ronald Bultje and Daniel Martin will lead the training session.

To register or to find out more, contact the Ottawa County planning department at (616) 738-4852.
