Michigan can now add an above average level of pot use to its resume.

A CBS News list "Pothead Nation: 17 states that dig dope most," ranks Michigan at No. 15, with about 12.6 percent of Michiganders saying they smoke marijuana, according to data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

About 10.8 percent of Americans say they smoke pot occasionally, the report said.

Medical marijuana is legal in Michigan and residents can have as much as 2.5 ounces to treat diseases and chronic pain.

But that doesn't mean Mary Jane hasn't been met with some controversy in the state.

Several municipalities including Bay City, Midland and Saginaw have outlawed medical marijuana dispensaries, while other areas work to create ordinances.
