Does Chronic Heartburn/gerd Pain Qualify As Medical Condition?

Hi folks. I have suffered with chronic heartburn for 15 years or so. Currently using omeprozole (Prilosec) and am concerned about side effects in the long term. Two questions: (1) Has anyone used medical marijuana for this, and if so, how well does it work? (2) Does a diagnosis of GERD (gastro-intestinal reflux disorder) qualify for med marijuana under "chronic pain" classifications?

Hi, I have acid reflux disease and I'm taking Prilosec as well. Medical Marijuana is used for many different types of pain. I'm not a doctor, but I have not heard about any sort of research that Cannabis use helps control the acid pumps in your stomach...It does however, help with all sorts of pain. You would get more feedback I think if you posted this question in the forums! :)

Hi, I have acid reflux caused by esophageal dysmotility, from an autoimmune disease. I use Prilosec too. From my personal experience, I smoke but it makes me cough, which sometimes aggrevates reflux. However I just started eating "Medibles", and that works great! I made Carrot Bread with 2/3 c. MMJ butter and I eat 3 slices a day. It calms my reflux down, and the mmj bread I eat at night helps me sleep all night, no waking up with reflux (usually wakes me up a couple times). :thumbsu:

Your 2nd question I dont know - Have you asked in the "legal professionals" or "Health Professionals" area?

Thanks sarazorz. I did post in the forums also and got lots of suggestions. Yeah, Prilosec is a life-saver. What did folks in olden times do, i wonder. Still, I have never liked the ideal of something interfering with normal physiological process like stomach acid pumps. I tried acupuncture once but no results. So I'm hoping that MJ will help. Peace.

Thanks Sparkly. I will remember your Carrot Bread remedy. I have written in the health care forums as well and had a number of replies. Peace.

HI All!!!

I vapor it and find it helps to calm it down, sometimes I cough it I take in alot at one time but if I just take small hits on the bag I can take the whole thing and not cough.. I don't really like medibles they just make me sit and waste the day away or sleep....Great at night though! I also have GERD, along with many other things and it seems to have a helping hand in them all in some way, I know for a fact it put my LUPUS in remission, After 10 years of it being very active, I started using it as a medication and after 30 days it went into remission and the doctors won't agree but I think they believe it too.... I don't tell people to smoke it ... vapor it .. its better for you anyway.... good Luck!!!
