Recent Pot Busts

Recommended Posts

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Drug enforcement agents in Kalamazoo have made a number of recent pot busts.

Officials say hundreds of pounds of marijuana have been taken off the streets in recent weeks.

The raids started on May 13th when agents busted one of the largest grow operations they've seen in Kalamazoo. In that search, 85 plants were taken from a house on Den Adel Court.

Over the next several weeks, six other busts yielded even more pot plants. The most recent bust took place on Wednesday at a house on Hoek Court where agents seized seven pounds of marijuana.

Recent weeks have been hectic for KVET, which says if current patterns continue, they expect many more busts soon.

Marijuana and guns is nothing new for the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET), but Capt. Joe Taylor says the frequency is increasing.

“We generally get a few grow operations here and there,” said Taylor. “It just seems like the last few weeks we've had some pretty significant finds.”

On May 27th, KVET found 24 plants in a Kalamazoo home, on June 3rd they seized 41 plants at a home in Ross Township. The day after that a traffic stop at the D Avenue rest stop led KVET to 300 pounds of marijuana in Wyoming, which led to another 325 pounds in Grand Rapids.

Taylor says the state of the State of Michigan may be fueling the fire of an already potent pot industry.

“The economy probably has something to do with it,” said Taylor, “as well as just supply and demand, I mean there's a lot of money in marijuana sales.”

Marijuana sales are creating daily work for KVET, which seized 131 plants on June 14th in St. Joseph County, and 99 more in Kalamazoo's Edison neighborhood the next day.

Taylor does say the increase in busts isn't only due to more pot, it's also more people coming forward to help KVET keep neighborhoods clean.

“We work very closely with Silent Observer program and had again a record number of tips last year,” said Taylor. “Silent Observer is breaking that record this year.”

This is a pretty disgusting waste of time.

You know why you're getting so many tips on pot, KVET?

Because it's keeping you distracted from the massive amounts of coke and meth that are being moved through southwest Michigan every day. THOSE dealers are the 'neighborhood watchers' who are giving you tips on pot dealers.
