About the Macomb Oakland Compassion Club (MOCC)

 

 

On April 21st of 2009 the first meeting of the Macomb Oakland Compassion Club was held in the Troy Public Library. The founder and dreamer of the club Steven Karapandza decided to create an outlet for the public to come and learn about the use of medical cannabis and also create a place where others could give forth their wisdom of the herb and use of. The first meeting brought a crowd of 104 people together and this started the club in the right direction. After holding several meetings Steve met a few others that had a similar vision to help others, this is how the MOCC came to what it is today.

We are now over 400 members strong and are a solid support system for the community on a whole, we are patients helping other patients and those who just want to learn more. We hold meetings in over 5 cities open to the public and cover topics such as methods of growing, uses other than smoking, cooking, recycling, electrical and more. With the members wisdom we have volunteers that teach classes for free as a service to their community. We are a Non Profit Organization that is run entirely by donations, dues and sponsors. We all as board members and members do not take any type of pay or compensation for our time, actually most of us have put our own money into the club to get it going. We are currently trying to establish a building of our own for private member only events and a public outlet for education materials. Our end goal is to help others in ways we can, through education, support, information and action. As of today we have 7 board members that meet at least once a month to go over club rules, regulations, events and such.

The MOCC was the first Compassion Club to ever hold an event for the medical marijuana community, in October of last year we held the Harvest Celebration and was a huge success for all who attended. We have also held other events like the Roll “n” Bowl bowling event and the Wake “n” Bake billiard event.
